Sounds like the TWAIN software is not being seen by the scanner. There are some generic free TWAINs available on line. If that does not work, I would look to get the latest driver for the scanner and uninstall it completely then, reinstall the driver before reattaching the scanner to the PC.

SOURCE: scanner only scans parts of an image over a series of scans, how do I get it to scan the image as a whole?

I had this problem too - then downloaded new drivers and software here:  http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2613&modelid=9722#DownloadDetailAct

You need to re-install the drivers, then use the MP Toolbox software, and play with the "scan mode"
Good luck!

Acquiring images from a TWAIN Device PhotoImpression accepts images acquired via standard TWAIN devices. 1. Click the Get Photo button on the Main Screen, and select Camera/Scanner. A list of your TWAIN devices will appear. 2. Select your desired device from the Select Source pull-down. 3. Select the album to which you wish to link the acquired image(s). 4. Click the Acquire Options button to set your acquire parameters: a. Specify the file format for the acquired images. b. Specify the save directory for the acquired images. c. Choose whether or not to retain the original file format (for example, some cameras may save in a specific format-you can have the program convert the files to an option of your choice, or retain the original format). d. Set the file names for the incoming files. You can choose to have the program automatically name the files using the current date, or you can specify your own unique file name. 5. Click the Acquire button if you are capturing from a still camera or scanner; click the Video Camera button if you are capturing a still from a video. Follow the procedures specific to your device to import the image into PhotoImpression.
Updates for the Arcsoft application "PhotoImpression" are available from Arcsoft
If there are connection errors, that could be from:
  1. USB connection error
  2. Hardware issue
Try plugging the camera (via USB) to a different port on the computer, then acquire the pictures using the included software, or your own photo editing software that is capable of acquiring images from a TWAIN device.
Hope this helps!

My scanner is not working, what do i do?

It depends exactly on how it is "not working" and what your OS is.

If the scanner doesn't even turn on, check the power supply and cables.

Assuming it's a Windows, if the scanner is not shown in Start > Control Panel > Cameras and Scanners, you may need to check the cables (possibly plugging the scanner in another USB port) and/or reinstall the driver which came with the scanner.

If the scanner is shown but can't acquire images from the Test tab, run the Windows troubleshooting wizard.

If you can't acquire images from an application, try modifying the Scanner Source in the same application (you might see two of them, one WIA and one non-WIA. Try the WIA first - that's the standard Windows Image Acquisition. Less features, but often less trouble).

Hope this helps. Have a nice day,

How do i use my scanner

If you have loaded the software for the printer/scanner.
Go to your HP director Icon and start this program.
you should see your Scanner / printer listed under Select device.

You can place a document/picture in the document feeder on top.
OR you can place the document / picture directly on the glass.
(Lift the hinged lid to reveal the scanner glass)
Don't worry the document feeder uses a different scan wand.
Now document / picture in place select the Scan document or Scan picture icon from the HP director. Depending on which type of document you have placed in / on the scanner.

Scanner should warm up then scan presenting you with a preview image. From here you can decide what and where to go.

You are not limited to just the HP director.
Other applications can use the twain source to activate your scanner software. This will transfer the scan to your application.
Irfanview is a prime example. Image viewer that will let you "Acquire" and image from you scanner. Be sure to select the twain source.

Good luck!
