Freezer -5 Fridge 50

Older Hotpoint 20 cu ft side by side. Fridge warm - freezer ok. Settings were coldest for freezer and warmest for fridge up to now. Reset fridge to coldest which brought temp from 55 to 50 over 2 hours.

You have a defrost problem. Refrigerator gets cold via freezer. If blocked with frost, will restrict cold air into refrigerator.

What settings do you recommend for the refrigerator and freezer/

fridge --around 4 ( should be at 5 degrees c and freezer around 6---minus 20 degrees c
for the fridge settings the numbers work down from hot --7 to zero --- 1 where as the freezer works from 1--- zero to minus to 7 really cold at -20
adjust each depending on the time the door is open and the frequency of the opening ---examples
if you find that lettuce is freezing at 4 and you are the only person using the door , put it up to 5 but if there a family and the door is continually being opened or held open while the minds are being made up , you may have to consider 2 or 3

Freezer works but refrigerator is warm

Is the fridge thermostat suspect.... it would appear power supply and motherboard are fine... are there 2 separate compressors... if so... it may be that is the problem on the fridge side.... in which case - can you confirm if the air circulating fan is operational.

Freezer work's excellent,, but fridge part is getting warmer every day now and will soon not be able to keep food cool. Have freezer set at D and E is coldest.... have frige set at 9 coldest setting but...

The freezer plates are the first to get the dwindling freon an dthat will remain the coldest. Find the leak and have it repaired (not just refilled or you will be here again in a few days!

GE TFX26KRDA WW 2001 side by side refrig/freezer w warm fridge

Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.

Fridge not cooling or freezing

Work on the fridge problem first and the freezer may be fixed by that.

1/Thermostats lose sensitivity over time. The thermostat or sensor may be defective.
or
2/ You have lost some of your refrigerant and it is undercharged. It does evaporate very slowly but a pinhole would lose it in minutes.

Do not continue to run it or your compressor may overheat and fail. The sides of the fridge are probably quite warm from this happening already.

Freezer cold/fridge not

take back plate off inside freezer and see if there is ice build up on the pipework. if so, this prevents airflow and the fridge is affected first. melt off ice with a hairdryer and restart.
if fault reoccurs, you have a fault with the defrost system
