Sherwood RX 4109. I have a spontaneous turning off problem as well but it seems different than what others report; more related to the button switch, which keeps popping out from the on position. The problem is unrelated to volume, and is happening with increasing frequency but not at a regular time interval; e.g. sometimes quite soon, other times not for half an hour or so. It seems to me like a switch failure. Any thoughts?

I'm am not certain, but it could be a safety circuit that is tripping the power. It will require investigation of the power supply to determine if it is good. It seems to me unlikely that it is the switch itself to blame. I think it would be rare for the locking mechanism of the switch to act like that.

SOURCE: keeps turning itself off

If Both speakers are working at a low volume and you turn it up and it clips and shuts off you have one of 3 problems. you have over driven your speakers and one has shorted the voice coil but still will work at low volume, its a overload protection for ohms short in receiver. unhook each speaker and turn balance to the one hooked up and turn up receiver if it shuts off do the same with other speaker to determine which side is bad. 2 speaker wires are touching at speaker or receiver. 3 a bad receiver output transister. Good luck.

My Sherwood RX-4109 sounds "quieter" and "muddier" than it previously did. Also the "click" when it turns on in quieter. Wondering what this could mean

Main board fault. Shorted component/s at its audio output section circuit. Most common fault is with its audio output transistors. If any one of them get shorted [collector to emitter short]; this kind of fault can occur. Check 2SD1510 / 2SB2510 transistor pair at this section circuit for short. If found shorted, check all the other components related to these transistors and make sure that all are good; otherwise, the replaced transistor too will get damaged in no time. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

What is a compatible turntable for my Sherwood rx-4109 receiver?

many decks have pre amps or need preamps. hence the reason why you have distorted sound i would guess. you need the opposite of what you used. What record deck did you try?

RX-4109 Remote Controlled Stereo Receiver with Phono Section

Unlike the budget stereo receivers now flooding the entry-level price points at dealers across the country, the Sherwood RX-4109 is designed and built in-house with the same quality and attention to detail we have been bringing to our audio gear for the last 50 years.

With 105 Watts RMS per channel, phono section, binding posts, a versatile remote control and switching for two pairs of loudspeakers, the only thing that bespeaks the word "budget" about the RX-4109 is its modest cost.

MSRP 179.95

I have a sherwood RX 4109.....can i hook a pair of 6 ohm speakers and then a powered sub?

By design, yes for one pair of 6-ohm speakers used at a time; depends on the sub for the second BUT there is no way to control its volume at the Sherwood.

My dish network remote control will not control a sherwood rx-4109 am/fm stere rec.

Try these codes: 670,646 The steps for programming these remotes are below:
1.) Hold down the aux button until all four mode buttons are lit.
2.) Enter the three digit code and press pound (#)
If those codes fail try the steps below they are for what is called a Power Scan. This should resolve this unless there is a compatibility issue.
1.) With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct AUX button until all mode button backlights illuminate (about 3 seconds), then release.
2.) press 0 for a TV, press 1 for a VCR/DVD, press 2 for any other device, then press *.
3.) Press and release the large red Power button.
4.) Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
To verify the code works try several different functions for that equipment.
