Open up Control Panel and navigate to IDT Audio Control Panel.
On the right hand side, there would be an image depicting the jacks available on the 1555. Left click on the respective jacks and change them corresponding to the 5.1 outputs. HOW TO CONNECT 5.1 WITH DELL STUDIO 15(1555) - 21d6042.jpg

I posted this solution for someone with a studio 1537, I'm not sure it will work for 1555, but give it a go. Put the black cable into the microphone jack, orange into the jack next to that and the green one into the furthest right jack. Then open up the IDT Audio Control Panel (Control Panel -> Additional Options -> IDT Audio Control Panel) and in the far right panel (Jacks), click the far right jack picture and it should come up with a drop down selection. Select 'Device: Front Speakers' and the rest should also change. Enjoy I hope this helps

On the left side of your laptop, you'll find a wireless on/off switch. See if that switch was turned off.

Hopefully, that will help.
