SOURCE: I have a jammed staple in a bostitch staple gun
Depending on the model that you have, for the manual guns, you can engage the driver 1/2 way and use a precision screwdriver to free the errant staple. However, if it's the electric model, you'll need to unplug the tool, remove the magazine mounting screws, and clear all material from the feed tube, this should also remove the lodged staple as well. If not, rap it against a wooden surface to free it then reassemble. I suggest that you unload your tool between uses to keep the rigidity of the spring up to OEM specifications. A weak spring is usually the cause of these jams.

You should not need any tools to lift the guard/nose piece. The T5 nose piece cleary has engraved on it "Pull Up To Insert Staples". To remove old staples, use a pencil or similar rod to depress the hammer/striker above the staples while the nose is open.
