Its a frame fault if the lines are only on the top of the picture ..it sounds like a capacitor fault near the frame chip .but this could be down to dry joints .i think the first thing i'd check is the frame chip.check the legs are soldered properly.hope this helps ..farr64

OK, problem seems in convergence section of TV and can be confirmed by testing voltage supply as mentioned in schematics.

I have a 1985 Zenith Space Command Color TV. It has developed thin white lines at the top of the viewing screen. The rest of the screen is clear. Is it something small or am I looking at a new picture...

The picture tube is fine.
Those whites lines at the top of the screen are caused by a dry or leaky capacitor(s) nearby the vertical amplifier IC.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

Jvc 32" has grouping of thin white lines at top of picture extending 4" down from top of frame

It sounds like you have a bad capacitor in the vertical circuit. The circuit needs to be checked out by a technician. Stargazer

JVC AV-32F704 32" TV Picture is blurry - cannot read any writing on the screen

You didn't mention if you saw fine white diagonal lines running through the screen from top to bottom. If so, you likely have a shorted Picture Tube which is not usually fixable. If there are no lines seen running through the screen, then it is possible the High voltage transformer which also has a screen voltage and focus control built in that could be bad. I would expect the cost of that part to be about $100, so the repair cost total could approach that of a new set I would guess.

Top of the screen Picture Problem

sound like you have 1 or a couple of leaky/bad capacitors in the tv's vertical circuit, typically, there sould be 5 to 10 caps. in all, but you just need 1 bad one to cause your problem. good luck.
