Sony handycam CCD-TRV308

I am having a problem when I turn on my vide o camera- plugged in or not that I get a c31:23 error message with an eject sign on the camera. This is the only problem code not listed in my information book and I don't know what it means. I have tried a different battery,letting the camera charge with no tape in the machine (thinking it was overheated) and nothing is helping. Any ideas?

I read in a forum somewhere that ppl were having the same issue and their solution was a solid smack on all four sides and everyone who tried it reported success.

When turned on the camera beeps and flashes C:31:22 ?

i had a the same error mesage, resolved it aftr some research, just remove the battery & smack it down harder, on a soft surface though,keep samcking, try ejecting u mite have to repeat it a few time, it will resolved it, i resolved mine just today

Handycam says C:31:22

error 31:22 means camera mechanism has error in take-up reel section and micro processor isn't receiving reel signal so it shuts down playback/ record function immediately. look into take-up reel section of mechanism.

Tape wont play or eject.

i just read about this c:31:22 problem while looking for a solution to another problem I am having. Someone suggested removing the battery, switching the camera to the "camera" setting, and then turn it off, put the batter back in and it should work. Good luck.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.

I was getting the same code and a dinging noise. I tried a cleaner and I tried letting the camera dry out...it wasn't wet! Neither worked. SOOO...Don't buy a cleaner. Look inside camcorder and make sure both reel turners are equal in height...they can slide down. Turn both of them...one of mine was down and also did not turn to make contact with tape. We got it to turn and the message C31:23 and the dinging quit. The stripes/bars also went away. Camera
