Print Head Alignment test produces only a blank page.

Just set up 5 year old Canon i860 and nothing prints when testing Print Head Alignment. Printer is going through all the motions. Is the ink too old/stiff?

Yes head probably clogged. You can try cleaning head multiple times, I think this is a pigment ink machine, so get only these carts for it

I have had some success placing the removed Canon print head (less cartridges) on a paper towel soaked with Windex. When you push down on the paper towel you can see the ink colors come back up onto the silver screens where each tank attaches to the bottom of the print head. Those screens that don't show ink backing up are probably blocked.
I've had to soak some heads overnight, and some nozzles never recover. I've been told that trying to print with an empty cart in place can overheat/melt the individual nozzles and ruin the print head.

Installed new ink. it says out of alenment

Dennis: According to an old FixYa.com, urbanhookupz said: "You need to run a printer alignment page like you do when you put in new cartridges.

unplug your printer plug it back in.
open door and take out print ink cartridges.
put them back in and then close the door.

It should now prompt you to do a test alignment page.

now try and print it should solve the problem.

if it does not prompt you to do a test page

Aligning the Print Head

This operation must be carried out when using the printer for the first time.
Aligning the
Print Head positions allows you to print without shifts in the color registration.
Print head alignment is performed either automatically or manually. This section deals with
automatic Print Head alignment only.
?? Ensure that the Inner Cover is closed.
?? The Print Head can also be aligned from the printer itself.
1.With the printer on, load a sheet of Letter-sized plain paper in the Sheet
Feeder.
2. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button until the POWER lamp flashes four
times.
1 With the printer on, load a sheet of Letter-sized plain paper in the Sheet
Feeder.
2 Open the Printer Properties dialog box.
See "Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu" on
page 28.
3 Print the pattern.
(1) Click the Maintenance tab.
(2) Click Print Head Alignment."

I am installing an i860 printer and it will not align automatically nor print properly. How can I do the alignment manually?

You should have access to a set of utilities in your printer set-up panel. It's called 'Canon IJ set-up Utilitiy'
There is a complete list of jobs that can be done on this printer there.
It normally does the alignment routine when you first install the print-head and cartridges. Is this brand new or just new to you? If you have got it second-hand then logically it won't need an alignment doing unless the print-head has been changed.

Test page prints fine, but nothing else does

You need a new printhead, QY6-0049-000 around $40.00. Your printhead has worn out or plugged nozzles and cleaning won't help.

After deep cleaning the print heads, it will only print one page

This sounds like the print head alignment is not stabilized and may indicate you need a new print head ($$$). Try looking in the Service Manual.
A copy of the Canon i860 Service Manual is downloadable at:

Canon i860

Print head temperature rise [5200]

I would assume that the cleaning efforts resulted in oveheating the print heads.

Please ensure that you have sufficient ink, as ink acts as a lubricant for the heads. If you try to use them while empty it is equivalent to driving a car without oil.

Take your time..
Verify ink is in all cartridges.
Remove paper jam
let the printer cool off (heads)

Chances are the head alignment is not necessary and you are low on one of the inks...

Try this test program (Page) to isolate low colors...

I860 won't print properly

Buying a new printhead is a mighty good suggestion, it seems you have pretty well used up the maximum service life of your printhead, if i'm not mistaken. Try to reinstall your printer along with its software. Go to settings>control panel > remove hardware> then, reboot. After, rebooting, re-install your printer software and drivers.

Not printing

Make sure the tape on the top of the cartridge is completely removed (If there is still a seal Vacuum the ink won't flow).

Run up to 5 deep head cleanings in a row (Print test page)
wait 5 minutes (for heads to cool and repeat the process....)

If this fails to produce any printout, you may need to purchase head cleaning solution and allow it to soak in overnight.

I had a similar problem and needed 2 head cleaning kits.

Epson Stylus CX6400

Blank pages are indicative ofdried ink.

If the printer has not been used for a long time ink may have settled and dried in the heads.

You may need to replace the cartridges (IF they are very old) and run several head cleanings if there is no improvement.

I typicall try to print a few test pages to see if some of the color work.

Cannon i860 printer will not print

I don't have specific answers, but here are some steps to check things out. When you say 'just shoots out blank pages', do you mean that the print heads don't pass over the page? If they do, check you ink cartridges to see that they are properly seated. If the printer sends out a series of blank or mostly blank pages, the drivers may have become corrupt. Download the latest drivers, uninstall the printer, and install with the new drivers. If you have the latest driver, uninstall and reinstall the printer. Run the head alignment and color tests. Check your printer cable. If you have a spare, try another cable.
