These are the steps you need to take to Remove the Keyboard for D631 Dell.:

  1. Remove the hinge cover.NOTICE: The hinge cover is fragile and can be damaged if extreme force is used. Be careful when removing the hinge cover.
  2. Open the display all the way (180 degrees) so that the display rests flat on your work surface.
NOTICE: To avoid damaging the hinge cover, do not lift the cover on both sides simultaneously. Removing the hinge cover in a different way than described may cause the plastic to break.

NOTICE: The keycaps on the keyboard are fragile, easily dislodged, and time-consuming to replace. Be careful when removing and handling the keyboard.

3. Remove the three screws at the top of the keyboard.

NOTE: Lift the keyboard carefully to ensure that you do not pull on the keyboard cable.

4. Ease the edges of the keyboard out of the small detents on the sides, then slide the keyboard slightly forward to free the keyboard tabs from the palm rest.

5. Rotate the top of the keyboard forward and away from the display, and lay it upside-down on the palm rest to gain access to the keyboard connector.

6. If the keyboard cable is held in place by a locking arm next to the keyboard connector, carefully spread the retaining bracket away from the connector so that you can pivot the locking arm upward to release the cable.

7. Pull up on the pull tab to disconnect the keyboard cable connector from the keyboard connector on the system board.

How do I get my keyboard to work on my Latitude 3440 by Dell? It just quit working.

Try restarting in recovery mode. If that does not solve it try an external keyboard. This may not fix it but you will know where the problem is.

Keyboard stops working

This happens with this model dell. It's a pain. If it completely stops working except for space bar and perhaps one character it's the keyboard. If not it could be a software glitch. Spill anything on it? Replaced a keyboard for a person who claimed no spill. Found dried milk around perimeter of keyboard once removed. His kids did it. If you have to replace it, it is easy! You don't have to open the computer or really take anything apart. The keyboard is removable from the top by removing the plastic trim at the top of the base above the keyboard. The screen has to be folded all the way back to do this. If you want to replace it, its easy and cheap. Post it for directions.

How do I adjust brightness on my Dell Latitude D6...

Look for a key labeled "Fn" (blue lettering) on the lower left side of the keyboard

Hold the "Fn" key and then use the Up/Down arrows to adjust brightness.

If that doesn't work, reboot your laptop and get into the BIOS. There is a screen for brightness. I don't recall how it is labeled, but it's one of the last pages as you cycle through the BIOS options.

Keboard will ot tpe soe letters

Use the following link to remove keyboard. Once you remove remove the keyboard plug it back in and follow the instructions in reverse to put the keyboard back. If that doesn't work you more than likely have a bad keyboard and it needs to be replaced. If it is still under warranty call dell and they can send you a new one. If it isn't under warranty then you call dell and buy a replacement.
