I Have the same problem. It is the end of the brush roller opposite the belt end. It binds up and gets hot, then melts the plastic piece on the end of the brush roller. Have to order a new brush roll which is about $20-$25+shipping
If the belt is breaking that quickly, there is one very prominent culprit that could be causing the problem.
Check to see that the beater brush, the roller brush that the belt is supposed to drive, is turning freely on the unit.
Remove the brush and clean as best you can. Add some WD40 at both ends of the beater brush by the hard rubber holders and turn the brush by hand to work it into the joint.
Reassemble and be sure the belt is put on so the brush turns in the proper direction.

You get to the belt & brush roll area from the top. On the hood of the vacuum, right behind the word Altima, to the right & left sides, you will see a screw. Remove them, lift off plastic hood. Check belt if broken or just stretched too big to catch brush to turn it. Check ends of brushroll for any hair, thread buildup & clean it. See if end caps turn easily. If one or both ends do not turn easily, the brush roll would need to be replaced. Eureka Brush roll part # 62365-3 Eureka U belt part # 61120D
brush roller berings may be faulty making the brush stick and motor shaft spins against belt causing melting. remove brush roller, clean out end berings and see if ends spin freely or if they stick. if they stick, you might need to replace brush roller.
make sure all your filters are clean, try to turn the brush roller by hand a few times if it turns real freely then the belt is broke.if it is reall hard to turn then you have something wrapped around the ends of the roller where the bearings are.your motor guard might be keeping it from running because it got too hot take the brush roller out and the belt let it cool down for 20 minutes then try it without the roller and belt.you should be able to take the ends of the roller off by just pulling out on them so you can remove what ever is in there
is there anything jammed underneath.can you turn the brush roller by hand.if not then take it back where you bought it.sounds like you have a defective brush roller
The brushroll may spin when looking at it but stops when pressure of the floor is applied. The belts stretch, so they look fine but are not. The smell - if it's a rubber smell - would also be the belt. Some, or most, brushrolls can get hair in the ends that could also cause a smell and belt problem.
My daughters is doing the same thing and the plastic at the ends of the brush bar melted just enough for it not to turn properly. You might want to chech that.
