How much ram do you have? Vista works poorly with 1GB, 2 is much less likely to give you memory related problems. How long has this been happening, can you replicate the problem?

Try a new driver for that card. That gpu has problems with sims 2 games. More ram could be needed, a better cpu and that graphics card isnt great for playing newer games a Nvidia geforce 9600gt is much better.
