Question about Zenith SY2551S TV

1 Answer

No picture Having a video problem building up for several years. Every once in a while the picture color goes reddish, like everyone on the tube looks like they've spent waaayy too much time in the sun and any landscapes look like photos from Mars. I twist the video plug and/or spray contact cleaner on the video RCA jack and everything's fine. However, for the last month it happened several times per night, then all picture disappeared. When I pull and insert the video cable again, the screen gets white horizontal streaks for a split second, then back to no picture. Not sure if replacing the little sandwich board that holds the RCA connectors will do the trick, or if the tube is toast. Speaking of toast, I never smelled any smoke! :-) Thank you!

Gets white horizontal streaks for a split second, then back to no picture. i think sound will be alright. while horizontal streaks are called retace lines & is due to video section failure. please call skilled tech to fix it it is not a major problem & can be rectified. at your place without replacing much parts. your tube is ok. good luck

Model ds31590 screen has a reddish purple tint whether it s on tv or video i have already tried to change all picture settings and set back to factory settings still has same problem, here is an example...

Chances are real good that your picture is showing its age. There are three color beams in the neck of the picture tube. When these electrodes are operating correctly the will produce an arc, that will produce the proper voltage for color correction. Much like the spark plugs in your car. When you have a fouled spark plug, you replace it. In the case of a TV, replacing the tube is the best way to correct the picture you are looking for. It would be to costly to do this of course. Another option is to rejuvenate the picture tube. Once again, rejuvenating the picture is last resort. Customers must be warned that rejuvenating may work or even in some cases destroy the picture tube. I want to remind you as well, the symptoms you describe will over work the main board as well. This TV is not feasible for repair. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

I have a sony wega and the picyure is clear but has a green tint what could that be

There are several possibilities in that area. The Picture Tube (CRT) is driven by three different video signals. One presents the Red, one the Blue and one Green. All other colors are derived from a mixture of those three colors. The greenish tint could be a sign that the green gun is being over driven or the Red and the Blue are less than adequate to create a normal picture. Sorry to say this but the most common problem that causes that symptom is the emission in the "gun" assembly inside the picture tube is declining with age and hours of operation. Sony Picture tubes are typically good for around 40,000 hours of use. I don't recommend replacing the picture tube. If the set is more than 5 years old I would suggest that you start looking for a new set.

I know this is bad news but I am just telling what I know the most likely scenario that I have seen in 35 years of TV service.

Hitachi RP CRT Gone Red On All Inputs!!!

I want you to do a simple visual check of something that will tell me what the problem may be.

Go to a channel that is in black and white--old movie and tell me what color the screen/picture is.

You can also turn the COLOR in the customer menu all the way off and look that way.

What we are trying to see here is if TRACKING is set correctly or has changed. If the screen is somewhat to medium reddish it may be an adjustment outside of the customer menu.

Let me know what you find--I have seen several of these where the black and white picture was somewhat red--the idea is it should be as close to black and white as possible--if red is the predominant background color the picture will look reddish.

If this has helped and you confirm the red instead of black and white picture--I can tell you a easy way to adjust this.

If this information told you something you did not know and helps you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Video color

Hard to tell, but my first guess is that the green or blue video amp, or guns on the picture tube have failed.

Screen colors not constant

You probablly have bad solder joints on your Video driver transistors, which arre located on each Picture Tube. You can only get to those by going through the front, grille cover

25 inch sanyo tv

If the horizontal lines going through the picture are fine white lines, then I would suspect the picture tube as having a heater to cathode short or some other problem. Since some sets have had a 3 year warranty on the picture tube, you may be lucky unless the labor to replace the tube is more than the set is worth. Sanyo is usually not a good name in consumer electronics anymore, so if you're looking for a replacement I would look elsewhere.
