Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 40 GB Hard Drive
Local Disk(D:) is not accessible Access is denied
Well this message can be two things(if not more) One of them being that the disk has security set and you wil need to change those settings if you want access to the drive the other scenario being that a program has locked the disk for exclusive access. Assuming you are using Windows XP. To check the security go to the properties of the disk then click on security(Tf the security tab isn't there, Open my computer then click Tools->Folder Options then the View Tab. Scroll to the bottom/last option then uncheck Use Simple File-Sharing press OK/Apply) Now back to Properties of the disk then Click the security tab. You'll need to try this first and tell me what's there, or if u got any error message etc. My explanation might be to long if i try to explain every possibility. regards, babb

i had a similar problem.... but since it was on an extra portable hard drive so i backed up the entire data on it and went in for a full format that got me rid of this problem.... this peoblem came to me after norton discovered a virus on my drive and in order to remove that it deleted a couple of files maybe in that process i lost a couple of files required for dbl click access to the drive(though i was able to access the drive through explore in the rt click menu)......anyway format solved it so go in for that....
or run a virus scan
or i found another way on microsoft site try it maybe it ll help...not too complicated.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307874/

SOURCE: "Access is Denied"
you need a file called takeownership which when run installed to the reg it gives you the option of taking ownership removing that anoying Access Denied screen.
google for it I did and it works a treat.
