Convergence

Did you check the resitors out of circuit? As its very rare when a Hitachi doesnt open at least two on the affected circuit. If you checked the resistors in circuit an open resitor will read good even though its actually open.

Projection tv problems

jj,
The convergence amps have most likely failed. This is the number one leading cause for the symptom your describing and the most common failure on that unit.
Your Tv take two STK392-120 Sanyo Ics for convergence amps, located at Ic7404 and Ic7405 on the board and mounted to a rather large aluminum heat sink. In addition you will most likely have to replace R3159 and R3160 (6.8 ohm 1w) resistors and test the remaining low ohm resistors for change in value.
I would strongly recommend that you not do this repair yourself in this particular unit it is rather complicated by having to remove the boards to gain access. Notwithstanding that you could damage some of the smt components just taking the board out, you need some diligence in labeling outputs to crts from ssb board and on both ends of the connectors - otherwise re-assembling it could cost you a greater failure somewhere else. In a nutshell, replacing convergence amps in this unit is "extremely difficult" compared to say a Samsung which is a walk in the park! And the real downside is a little mistake can really cost you... Besides, a shop would really earn their money on this one..

Unfortunately it sounds like the convergence amps have failed - either that or they have developed ring-cracks where they're soldered to the foil side of the pc board and moving the set broke loose some of the contacts.. Only way to know for sure would be to remove the signal board and inspect them.. Not a job for the less than qualified... Even techs find themselves confused for not labeling the output connectors to the crts properly..
Your set takes two STK392-120 Sanyo built Ics and upon replacing them it's a good idea to also replace R3159 & R3160 both 6.8 Ohm 1w resistors.
Hope this helps.

A shop would really be earning their money on this particular unit if they charged $400 - $500 for the repair. It is an extremely difficult set to work on and there are a number of little problems that can reach-out and bite when attempting the repair.
Good luck!

Magnavox 51" hdtv rear projection

Those symptoms describe a convergence failure. Replaced both Stk392-120 convergence amps made by Sanyo and R3159 , R3160 (6.8 ohm 1w) resistors and check the remaining low ohm resistors for change in value.
This is probably one that you'll want to take to the shop unless you have some fairly good skills in electronic repair. Job will probably be about $350 - $425 if you take the unit in yourself and shop around for a reputable shop.
