I have a 51 inch sony projection t.v. model number KP-51WS520. I tried to turn the tv on the other day and the standby light just blinked and it would not turn on. i tried it later and the light blinked for a while but i kept hitting the power button and eventually turned on, the picture was just fine. but it kept doing this for several days and now it wont turn on at all, the standby light just blinks. What is the problem and how do i fix it. Is it a part i can replace myself, im no tv repair man but i have a fair amount of electrical and mechanical experience. thanks in advance

Same problem as previously described with the blinking stand by LED. Manufactured in 2004 by Sony Mexico I am surprised that a HV cap bad,xformer defective, bad connection problems or an open pico fuse has occured already.Same problem as previously described with the blinking stand by LED. we have a KP-51WS520 sony rear projection TV purchased new in 2005 won't turn on, just blinks on standby, sometimes eventually turns on. This only started when we swicthed from regular cale to a new HD - PBR box purchased from Future Shop, but still on same cable, not satellite. EXACT same thing as the original post! First couple times it happened, pressing power repeatedly eventually turned it on. A couple days later it never turned on again. :(

PCB repair should be done by a qualified tech.
Your problem could be HV cap bad,xformer defective
or bad connection problems and pico fuse open.
Check 2KV cap near xformer.

Hi, 10 times standby flashing indicates problem of High Voltage Protection and need to check following parts in Sony KP-51WS520 rear projection tv. Q8014 or Q8013 have shorted replace along with R8051 on D Board IC8005 is damaged (D Board) Hope these info will help you. If you have no experience of electronics stuff repair then local tv repairman is an option to get help. Thanks.
Standby flashing light shows that tv got some internal problem. How many times standby light is flashing is info that provide info about what section of tv got problem. Count standby light blinks and let me know, there would be 3 seconds long pause in blinks so count pause to pause.
Count the number of blinks of the standby light. It will bink a count, pause and do it again (Common counts are 2 -9) Give this count to a Sony service center and they can help you know what the issue is. (Probably the lamp)

That is a diode in the sub power supply, it is a small board with only a few parts on it to the left of the d board, for the zero crossing detector. D6301 sony part number 6-500-567-21
When that model Sony shuts down the LED starts blinking as you say but it is telling you something because it blinks a certain number of times and then pauses and repeats the number of blinks. Count the number and then I might be able to help you narrow down where the trouble is.
You need to check supply volts on main micro IC702 on main board of Sony KP-51WS520 TV. If you have experience of big TV repair then I would recommend to get service manual of TV from any online store and check above said IC supply volts. TV must give error by blinking light in case any problem in drive circuits and if main micro fried, no error signal will be there.
When a Sony TV flashes five times, that means that there is an AKB circuit fault. Six blinks is also a fault related to video problems, and regards a fault concerning the digital board and the Jungle IC (the main CPU).
This means that there is something wrong with the video.
Try first unplugging power for few hours, if that does not work, call a
technician, as several IC and components must be tested and eventually
replaced.
