Question about Akai LCT3201AD 32 in. LCD Television

2 Answers

I recently bought a 100uf 450v capacitor to replace a 68uf 450v capacitor. Unfortunately there is no power being fed to the TV when plugged in. I was told by a local TV repairman that the uf rating shouldn't effect the capacity if it is a little higher. I am not sure what to do to get the TV working and the capacitor was rather expensive. Does the uf rating have to be exact or is it allowed to be a little higher ?

Hi Bud (Martin) I have a (almost) dvd 32" RCA LCD + DVD combo. Turns only a dim power (standby) light.
Nothing happens. No bad caps visible. However removing the inverter cable connected to the main (graphics) board make the TV backlight turn BLUE immediately as if the set is ON. Wonder what/where the problem is. Any help shall be appreciated. Cheers!

The fault to your TV might not due to a defective capacitor. A higher capacitance valued capacitor, won't do nothing wrong. But as the capacitance value increases, the size of the capacitor will too increase. That's all. Check the fuse at the power supply regulator board. If it is found opened, make sure that something wrong with the power supply regulator board. Without rectifying the fault, never replace a fuse, as it will make things worse. If you wish to get more details, check this link. Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Time slide, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

SOURCE: Hi Ketch1 I have Akai LCD with same problems: TV

You need to do more torubleshooting, bad caps can look normal but they can have high ESR which are bad for switching power supply circuits.
Need to check the DC voltages, also try disconnecting the power cables to the backlights inverter board to see if it will come on normally isnce the light blinking can indicating it is sensing shorted circuits so it goes into shutdown/restart mode.
Basic LCD monitor and TV troubleshooting guide:
Failed TV and Monitors:
Learn about bad caps:
Capacitors kit: he can make you a set of caps.
Or, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.
Please post back what you find.
Please leave rating if it helps.
Sorry I cannot find free service manual for you.

SOURCE: will not turn on, only blinking green light

It is a rough gamble to speculate but if all you have on the PS +5v and +3.3v it's obviously toast.. It would help at this point to have an adjustable dc supply and scope now to trace yest the remainder of the set but for the cost of a good scope you could buy the Tv new... Just going to have to go with your instincts on this one. I could add that usually in lcd cases where the supply has failed it's simply isolated to the supply.
Good Luck!

Hi guys can I replace the 400 v 100uf electroytic capacitor with a 450 v 220 uf?

Agree with Warren. The 450V rating is OK, but it is better to try to get closer to the 100 uF capacitance.

I have a Jenn-Air double wall oven with a very dim display light. Replaced c3 capacitor 68uf 35w - with a 100uf 50w cost $1.60 closes size available at Radio Shack and works good as new. Requires soldering onto the circuit board. I price a replacement part for $276.00.

Hello, I am trying to fix the monitor LG L1951s that does not power on, I found the 68uF*450V capacitor bad, replaced this one but problem ramains. I have measured most of the componets on the power board...

The 68UF 450 is for the primay smps driving side, are you getting about 160vdc on that cap?
The PWM IC get the kick start DC voltage from the main bridge rectifier thorough a bunch of high resistance resistor to drop the 160vdc down to aboit 15vdc, once the PWM IC start working, one the winding will be the supplying the voltage to the IC to keep it running. If the DC output side detect short cirsuits (drawing too much current) it will go into shutdown, you need to find out if the inverter circuits has short circuits. The 5vdc and the 12~18vdc power supply will be running the minute you plug it in, you can solder in a 12v bulb at the DC output that feeds the inverter circuits (you can solder it directly on the DC filter caps for the 12~18 VDC filter caps of the inverter circuits). See application notes how this IC is used.

No blown MOSFET on the primay side?

Clock and oven control display

This solution worked great for me. I can't believe it was only a samll little cap. Thanks a bunch for saved me a bunch.
Its real easy to do if you're handy.
IMPORTANT Turn circuit breaker OFF first
Open oven door
From underneath control panel remove 4 white screws with philips screw driver
this holds white cover strip
remove 4 hex head screws which will loosen the panel.
remove panel and support it's weight as many wires are connected.
remove 2 small plugs on board - you may need a small screw driver to pry away the locking mechanisms on the socket
Remove riggon type flat cable by squeezing black tabs on eand and lift up.
The board can now be removed by unclipping 2 of the clips holding the board while lifting up.
Take board to Radio Shack and ask for a suitable replacement for the C3 cap which is 35 volts and 68uf (microfarads). Remove and replace by careful soldering.
If traces lift off oard use a wire to jumper trace
ensure the cap goes in the same polarity there is negative signs on one side.
You can parallel caps to add uf together.
Voltage should be not less than 35volt slightly higher is OK.
