If it truly is the HDD password, Dell will be of no help to you, as they have no control over the HDD Password; the password is stored in a hidden sector on the HDD itself.

The only people that could help you with that is the manufacturer of the HDD, and odds are they won't help you. It would involve sending the drive back to the manufacturer, and paying them a heft fee to unlock it. It would be returned to you, but would be blank, as they have no way of knowing that the data on it truly belongs to you.

Today happens to be your lucky day however, as I stumbled upon what seems to be a very useful piece of software. There are many restrictions with it's use, so make sure you can manage this. It would involve you connecting your laptop drive into a desktop system in order to perform the task of unlocking, only works with certain drives, and has been known to not work on some Dell HDDs, amongst many other things. • Hello misdept, if by chance you didn't 'create a "Supervisor Password" to prevent anyone from changing the configurations in the BIOS / CMOS Setup? than we are 'OK!' Lets just say [No] for now. Bootup / Start the computer, and follow these steps: 1. When you hear the computer start-up, there will be a message that flashes very quickly at the bottom of the screen, it will read; Press F2 or F12 or on other "Computers, the 'Key Sequence may be [F11]..." The area of your attention will be [F2] Key at the top of the keyboard. The F2 Key will open the CMOS / BIOS Setup. 2. Once this screen appear, you will see a 'Listing" of different set-ups. There will be instructions in the [right] Help ? area. You be using the "Arrow Keys" to (Select and Choose Items). In the first screen, there will be on the (right of the screen). 3. Set Supervisor Password = This is the "Password Setting that will prevent anyone from getting into without authorization this area that you are in now, to "Change or Configure" CMOS or BIOS setting. 4. Set User Password = This Password is use for "Logins / User Accounts... You want to "Reset or Change the Supervisor Password. in this case just uninstall the driver for the wifi card and reinstall it ...If you do not have the driver you will find it on the support site of the manufacturer...just type Dell support and on the site ..locate the model in the download area ..and choose the operation system you have installled and download the driver ...After that go to the device manager and uninstall the wireless card and reinstall the new driver ..this way you will get read of the passwords..
in case that the password is from the network you try to log into ...than you have to get it from the admin of the network...

It probably would be easier to reformat the hard drive and start with fresh install of windows to get around this problem, only other option is go to www.ebay.com type laptop and password, and narrow it down to hdd password. There are sellers that offer software to deal with this problem, but the disc is only good so long as you can set the boot order first for the cd/dvd driver and the software must match your operational system.
