Garmin 3600 GPS issue

When I flip up the antenna on my Garmin 3600 unit (GPS on mode)it keeps shutting down and restarting in a loop (non-stop). If the antenna is down (GPS off) the unit works fine. Any support to get the GPS working again would be great. Thanks. ysb

I had exactly the same problem. The last time I had used the GPS function was late July. Two days ago I turned on the GPS and it worked normally for a few minutes and then started cycling. I found this site, disabled the WAAS function, and it now works fine. Took it for a road trip today on two lane and back country roads and it functions normally. I can't detect any difference in accuracy with WAAS disabled. Thank you for this forum.

I had the same problem on the same day.

Turning off the waas does allow me to use it.  Has anyone contacted Garmin?

I noticed same problem of unit cyccling on off. Started today Sept 29. Turning off WAAS seems to solve it. Very strange that this is being reported on approximately same days and cycles the unit.

Mine too -- just noticed it today (9/29). The above solution works. But it would be nice to keep the WAAS enabled. AWS

I just started having the same problem today too. Go to preferences for gps. I did it by clicking down where the battery symbol is and where the satellite indicator comes up. Then click the quegps in the top left hand corner of the screen. Click preferences and disable WAAS. Seemed to work fine after that. I would like to have WAAS enabled so if you find anything else let me know. Wierd that happened on same day. Let me know [email protected].

Nuvi 350 I got it from someone else, already used, it does not connect with the GPS or the antenna. Is the antenna in it or in another car?

the antenna is on the back of the unit. it needs to be flipped up in order for live gps tracking to work. when it is flipped down, it will only work in simulated mode.

GPS problem

I had this problem and did several resets both soft and hard. I also charged the battery completely. The gps unit would work in sim mode but when the antenna was opened it would not. Eventually after several charging cycles and resets, I was able to get it to settle down. I had to sync and reload all data. Good :Luck

Ique 3600 does not work why?

Well unfortunately, sounds like it's replacement time.... same problem I had with mine. Even with an external antenna...no or little signal. Garmin charges $200 canadian for an exchange unit.
So much for costumer support.
Good luck.

Fritzed Unit when antenna up

I have a similar problem but I can't turn the GPS off at all, even when the antenna is down. As far as the power on/off cycle, I found another link on this site that said to turn off WAAS while the GPS is off then when you turn it on the unit will not power cycle continuously. You loose the WAAS feature but the GPS and unit still works.

When GPS is turned on unit locks up

I had losts of lock ups when flipping on the GPS - almost ready to get rid of the Garmin IQUE 3600 since it hasn't worked well for over a year. Sometimes it works a short time with the GPS; other times it was instant lock up when searching for satellites.

I took many steps to isolate the issue, and then added complexity to the equation: update to r6 (no change), hard reset, no user data on IQ3600 during testing, use only internal drive, only use basemap lite on internal drive, only use 1 local city on internal drive, load other maps on external card. Each time I went outside and flipped on the GPS to see if that was affecting the lock up.

Then I played with the GPS settings. The factor that seems to solve the issue: TURN OFF WAAS - it is intended to improve accuracy to 9 ft but it seems to have a bug.

GPS receiver problem

Does it work with an external antenna hooked up? If it does, it could be a problem with the flip-up internal antenna.
