Hey all...I have an akai pt4298hd, You can hear the tv's power as you plug it in, you try to turn it on, the red light comes on, but no picture or sound. Everybody and their momma has this same problem on the net, but not one post shows exactly what the problem is. Please help. I am trying to give this tv to my Dad for his B-day in 4 days. Thanks
Hello Prh011, I want you to think for a moment about how come no one can fix this problem with exactly one way of doing it. That is because, a television set is one of the most complex pieces of electronics on the face of the earth, sure everybody has one but the function of the TV has not really changed in all of these years. The electronics however has, it has become more interconnected, and interdependent. I have said this before and I will say it again "There are any number of upto 100 parts that can cause this problem by opening, shorting, or "leaking"" However people ask us as experts to pick one of the 100, without analyzing, troubleshooting, or even looking at the problem. I am sorry it can't be done. In the off chance the person has background in electronics, things are a little better, but not being able to analyize or examine the set very little can be offered in that case. So here is my suggestion, I want you to take the TV to the repair shop, because with what you are asking for it may take a little more then 4 days. However so as not to totally be a killjoy, here are my possible solutions: 1) check for a blown fuse 2) check for a bad Horizontal Output Transistor 3) check for a bad IHVT (Integrated High Voltage Transformer) also called a flyback transformer 4) check for a problem in the Horizontal/High Voltage section of the TV 5) check for a a shorted or opened component in the power supply. There you go 5 (but not nearly all) possible starting points, but totally valid and plausible none the less.
