When pushing the start button the dryer makes a buzz sound but nothing happens. If the belt was broken I should hear the motor running. The dryer is 18 months old and gets normal use for a small family. I wonder if the motor went bad or maybe a relay might be the problem.

Most likely the motor. If you have a second set of hands, you can try and hand start it. Open the door, hold in the door switch (or tape it, if you don't have anyone to help), press the start button, and then grab one of the drum fins, and spin the drum counterclockwise and see if it takes off.

My LG Tromm dryer makes 3 clicking sounds when I push the start button. Everything lights up as if it is going to work, but when "start" is pushed, I just hear the 3 clicks and then nothing happens

If the drum doesn't turn, check the centrifugal switch on the motor shaft. Check if the belt hasn't broken or if it's off the motor shaft.

When you push the button to start the dryer, all it does is buzz and nothing happens

next time send the model number and brand name, all dryers are not the same!it sounds like a bad motor.open the door, push the door switch in with one hand and with the other spin the drum, while you're spinning the drum have someone push the start button,if the motor starts you'll know the motor is bad but it might run for a while before it does this again or it will do it every time but either way the motor should be changed, also on some dryers if the belt broke it will buzz like when the dryer is down but if yours is more like a humming sound like power is going to the motor but it won't run then it's the motor.

When I turn the start button nothing happens except a buzzing sound...no tumbling happens even if the dryer is empty.

Hi,
There are two causes for this...bad motor or broken belt... If you are getting a buzzing sound then I would vote for the motor...

Check out a tip that I wrtoe about this...

When we push the on button, you can hear a hum,

Sounds like the belt that turns the drum has broken. the hum sound is the motor turning. Does it still get hot in the drum? If so then you need a replacement belt ($15-$25).You can open the rear or the dryer to confirm the belt is broken. Be sure to unplug from the wall outlet to avoid electrical shock.

My Maytag dryer buzzes when I push the start button. If you hold it in, the dryer will start but makes a noise, almost like a bad belt. After a few minutes the dryer will shut itself off and will not...

Remove the belt from the motor and push 'start'. If the motor makes loud noises, squeals, or the shaft has side play in several directions, then it probably is the motor. Replace it. If the the motor runs quietly, then check the drum by hand to see if it is making excessive noise while turning. There should be a little resistance to turning, but not real difficulty. Hope this helps.

Won't run

If "won't run" meaning; "does not tumble/spin" this can be a couple things;

1. Defective Drive Belt (Likely): Broken or jammed (not properly attached to motor/pulley). Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or rotate/tumble. "Normal ware and tear"

2. Defective Door Switch (Very likely) - Very common due to constant "slamming" of door. The door switch enables power to be passed through-out machine when door closes for safety purposes. Switch located at door area and can be tested for continuity. "Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or tumble/turn". * Fairly easy to replace; two mounting screws.

3. Defective/Jammed Motor (Rare, but possible): You may hear a "humming noise" and burning smell. Also, excessive lint in blower housing may jam the motor from rotating. "Does not come on; does not tumble/turn"

Remember to disconnect power from unit before servicing.

Dryer won't start when pushing the button it clicks

Could be a broken belt if you hear motor, also can be defective door switch. you can try pushing door switch with finger and press button If motor does not make a sound and pressing door switch does nothing you will need a volt meter and test for power if you hear moter then its broken belt or jambed drum. Try and manually move drum

Kenmore electric dryer won't start

The first thing I would check would be the door switch. Dryers operate on 220 volts. Many brands split the 220v into 110v for controls and motor and 110v to the heater. There are also safety systems on many brands that won't allow the heater to come on if the fan motor is not running and blowing air throught he element to prevent overheating and dryer fires. If the door switch is ok, check the belt. If the belt is ok, it could be a problem with the motor start switch. The motor start swith is complicated fix and should be done by a professional. ALWAYS BE SURE TO DICONNECT THE POWER BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS.
