Router password I bought a new laptop and cannot connect to my wireless router because i forgot my password. i would like to know how to rest it or figure out the old one.

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Just "reset" the router back to its "factory" settings, and then reconfigure it with a new SSID and password.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. plug one end into laptop network connection other into laptop

if u cant login then, press reset button back of wireless router, will need to do that with pen or pin?
once logged into the router, use the setup wizard and the the rest is self explanatory.

once setup is dne, with SSID and password, then plug the cable from laptop, in back of the internet modem coming into ur house from ur supplier....and ur ready to surf the web.
find your new wireless network using the laptop and insert the password....

to get back ur default password u have to rest ur router.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable.
Then you can access it with following defaults link.

or
http://192.168.0.1
type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password".
Then you can see configuration of router.
Click on wireless and then wep security there is wep code it is your password to connect wifi.If it in * or # format then you need to set new add new WEP code then save settings it is your new password for connect internet.

what you want exactly?password for what? username and password for internet in subscriber? or just WEP for wireless key password?
if you forgot the password for username and password for subscriber....theres an option,i dont know what kind of subscriber do you have in your country...if you forgot the username and passowrd you can ask in the subscriber.
regarding in the WEP password for wireless,it doesnt matter,try this..
type 192.168.1.1 in the internet toolbar
username:admin
password:admin
and you can see the configuration,check the wireless settings for WEP...

connect to your router by an ethernet cable.

try resetting your wireless router. on the back, there's a small button, usually beside the power connection.
unplug the router, push it with a small pin or paper clip and hold it for 30 seconds.

I don't know the model of your router this would be very helpful. Most routers have a reset button on the back of the router. This will reset your router back to factory default settings.This will reset the pasword to default usually "admin". You will need to set up your router all over again. Before following this procedure beware that the reset function on the router will probably reset the entire configuration to the factory original. You will probably need to completely reconfigure your router after the reset including WAN side IP address or dynamic and possibly PPPoE userid and password if required by your ISP.
