Re: SH 5300 EX ELEMAX GASOLINE GENERATOR BURNING OIL AND...
Sounds like rings are worn is it difficult to start, remove plug and do a comp test, possably ok on test because oil ring wear out quicker the reason i ask u to do is if compression down also it mite need a new piston if not u might get away with re ringing the piston

it is not any kind of car or truck,so moved you to portable elect gas generators.
does it burn gas/petrol or LPG?
with engine stalled, oil lamp on is 100% normal
but never at the time of stall (or just before)
the oil pump runs off the crankshaft is why.
new spark plug is cure. i bet.
or use chock longer.
carb, gasoline , petrol.
if spark tip is in raw fuel , turn off chock and crank it dry.
the gen has many buttons switches make sure all are set correct for sure on./off .
is it elect starter or hand cord cranked or both?
It will be either the Amp selector switch is starting to fail or the AVR. I would start by checking the switch is not showing signs of burning. (You can order a replacement here>> http://www.generatorguru.com/shw190/?sort=featured)
If you are not getting the correct voltage to the electricity plug sockets then it is most likely the AVR. This can also show up as a surge in voltage as well as low Voltage results.

Full choke to start, open choke partially immediately the engine starts to where the motor runs smoothly, continue opening as soon as you can while keeping the engine running smoothly. Be sure to open fully before leaving the unit, running it with the choke partially on can cause a rich fuel condition which tends to wash the oil off the cylinder walls and it also dilutes the oil with gasoline.
Most Generac generators have a lever for the choke that pulls out. So if the generator is being started for the first use or cold you should choke when starting . Let it run for 30-45 sec. then push it in . Once the engine has been run or warm you dont need to choke every time when starting .
I hope you have fresh gas and 2-cycle oil mixed up! They always seem to start strong and explosively cut on good, fresh fuel. :D
1:Choke on.
2:Push the primer bulb (rubber ball by the side of the air filter) 3 times.
3:Place trimmer on ground. Grasp the handle, squeezing the throttle fully in left hand. Kneel and give that starter a crisp, sharp tug with your right hand. If the engine "hits", then push in the choke until off. Goto step 4.
If it does not give a hint of life, repeat the tug on the line 2 more times. If it STILL does not start, check for a distinct odor of gasoline. Likely, at this point, it is flooded, proceed to step 5.
4: With choke now off, continue to depress the throttle fully and give it another sharp pull on the starter. If it starts and revs? Let it idle for a minute to warm up, then go to work!
5:With choke OFF, press and hold throttle at full. It may take several pulls on the starter rope to see any life. If after 10 pulls and there is still no life, and still smells of gasoline - time to see the Ex about getting the trimmer looked after for some TLC. :D
You have/had too much oil in it. After it is brought down to proper level, it may have to burn the oil that is in areas that it should not be in. Another thing that may cause this, is a dirty air filter, can cause enough suction to pull oil around valves, and other places a clean filter will not. It may have oil in the filter too.
If you have to really choke an LP engine but it runs more or less normally once started you need to troubleshoot the demand regulator and the fuel supply lines (look for air leaks). I'd also check the fuel inlet pressure before the demand regulator.
