There are two ways to improve your internet speed.
One, free up resources on your computer (like the previous answer states). You can do this by closing programs that don't need to be running. There are also programs available (some for free), which will free up resources for you. Some of these are geared towards gamers, like Razer Game Booster - Razer Game Booster Performance Boosting Screencapture Software Razer... I've tried it and it appears to work. Watch the video on their website. Some settings may do things that are not beneficial, tweak settings one at a time. If you find yourself with problems with your settings, uninstall the software and re-install it to go back to "default" settings.
Solution number two: upgrade your internet service. I would suggest running a free speed test to make sure you're getting the most out of your existing connection first. Cable internet speeds will vary depending on how many other people are using the internet at the same time as you - no matter what your provider may try to tell you. DSL speeds vary depending on how far away you are from the switch. DSL speeds are usually listed as "up to" or "max" of 6 Mbps. I live 3.3 km (about 2 miles) away from my switch and I get about 4 Mbps and I'm very happy with that. I can stream 1080 HD video with no problem. No DSL service provider can make your DSL speed go faster using the equipment in the same location.
You improve your speed by freeing your memory usage.
