I'm assuming you mean it doesn't appear in Finder. Open up disk utility and it should appear there if you say the MacBook is providing power to the hard drive light. You may have to reformat or reset your Mac if you want it in finder

SOURCE: PC IS NOT RECOGNIZING MY

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
hope this helps

I have toshiba 250 gb HDDR250E03X i am unable to write a data of 4 gb or more(single file of 4 gb or more)..?

Hi this is a file system issue. It is probably formatted in fat32, which does not support files above 4 gigs.
To solve this problem you'll need to reformat it (my computer => right click on the drive => format), using ntfs file system (under file system select ntfs).
Note:
THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR DRIVE!
So back up everything before proceeding.
After it is done you will be able to copy files of any size onto it.

Alternative solution: download winrar and split your files into chunks smaller than 4 gigs.

Good luck!

Hard Drive not mounting

Check the jumper on each hard-drive.

My guess is that the WD drive has the jumper in the "correct" position, for mounting inside an external case, while the other drives have their jumper set to an "incorrect" position.

Set the jumper to MA(ster), not to SL(ave), nor to C(able)S(elect).

When I plug the Toshiba 250GB into the PC nothing happens

ok to solve this is a little complicated so first you need to click star the on your mouse right click on computer and then say manage
you should then look to the left of the window someware there you should see something that says disk manger in the categories there you should see a second drive or you might see 3 depending on if you have a recover drive. these are the drives you don't mess with c:/ or D:/ so look for your drive in the list and right click on it and say format if you have any question then comment hope this helps warning formating you drive will erase everthing on it

USB hard drive not recognized by Mac and by PC

Does the external drive work when connected to some _other_ computer? (Friend? Office? Home?)

It could be a failure either in the "hardware" inside the external-case (the USB adapter & interface)
or in the disk-drive "inside" the external-case.

So, a qualified technician can open the external drive, remove the disk-drive, and connect it directly to a computer, to see if the files can be "directly" read from the disk-drive.

If not, then you should search online for a "data recovery" service -- they are expensive, but they physically repair a damaged disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your data to another disk-drive.

Dead USB external HDD. Disk spins, light is on, but no one is home.

Hi,

it does sound like the Hard drive enclosures circuit board may be the problem, there are ways to get the data off that will void your warranty, or there are services you can send it to who will get your data back for you and then replace it.

Let me know what your preference is and I can assist you either way.
