3 wheeler engine trouble

We just recently obtained a 1980 yamaha trimoto 125 3 wheeler. The engine won't turn over freely, acting like it's siezed up. I have managed to get it to turn over with 2-3 pulls on the starter cable then it locked up again. Thanks for your any help you can give me.

Hey, my friend john has the same exact model, we run it all the time, i was over his house just this weekend. if you want to make it run better ill tell u how, its really easy. u wanna pull the carberator out and just scrub it with a tooth brush and some wd-40 then spray a little starter fluid in the air filter, give it a new spark plug, and charge the battery. next time u start it, push the electric starter and pull the cord. it should start up like new.

( if that doesnt work, tweak the engine moderator, its the little bronze knob near the little fuel pump switch on the side of the engine, it changes how fast the engine revs. just turn the revs up a little.)
good luck. hope i was helpfull.

Does your starter cable retract all the way?a lot of times it is the cable that is hard to pull.i just finished on a 1983 honda big red and my customer said he had engine troubles, but it was the whole entire pull start housing that was bad.

1980 yamaha 400 xs starter spins engine doesent turn over

The starter clutch needs to be replaced. At the other end of that chain is a wheel with a couple slots cut at angles. Inside each of these slots is a small cylindrical piece of metal. The whole unit fits over the end of the crankshaft and because of the angle of the slots those cylindrical pieces of metal (which move freely in the slots) will be forced against and grip the crankshaft when the starter is operated. If they become worn down they are no longer able to exert enough pressure on the crankshaft in order to turn it. Buying a starter clutch 2nd hand is not recommended. If you are unable to source one from a bike shop, try and have them made. Take the old ones to an engineering shop. Unless you know how to temper/harden metal of course.

You have to adjust the jets on the carb, theres a high and low jet, Turn them both all the way in ( dont force them) just turn until they stop, now losen each one in 1/4 intervals and try running it,

I need oil for yamaha tri-moto 175

If the motor is a two stroke, (and i am sure that it is), you need to stop riding until you fill the tank with TWO STROKE ENGINE OIL . Riding without oil will quickly cause the engine to seize up. If not using an automatic oil pump, then mix the gas and oil 32 to 1. That equals 4 ounces of TWO STROKE ENGINE OIL to one gallon of gas. NEVER use motor oil in the gas. Only two stroke engine oil.

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks! < < And it doesn't cost anything extra!

Yamaha timberwolf 4x4 carberator issues

Hi,

Firstly, if you are not a mechanical person you should never buy a vehicle that does not run.
However, here are some basic tests.
1. Connect a good battery.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Turn the motor using the starter motor or kick starter.
4. check for spark by inserting a new plug into the plug cap. (make sure the plug is grounded).

If the motor turns freely and there is spark, chances are good that the motor will run. This does not mean that the motor is in a good condition. Only with the motor running will you be able to know for sure.

You will now have to source a carb and fit it to the 4 wheeler.
Fitting the carb is not too difficult. Check that the intake manifold is not perished or torn, and remember to use the airfilter.

Enjoy the ride !
