Sounds like the rollers are contaminated/ and or the print heads have stuck on them. you can use alcohol on a cotton swab to clean them.

SOURCE: Printed pages look dirty

That black dust that fell out is the toner. When you shake a toner cartridge that shouldn't happen. It looks like you have a faulty toner cartidge and that need to be replaced! Now to make your printer prints cleanly and clearly after you replace the cartridge, you'll need to get someone to service the printer(the faulty toner cartridge more than likely spilled toner on your internal printer parts, cause the smudges). Sevicing would mainly entail, taking down the printer and removing any spilt toner! If you feel you are up to this, be cautious, because toner can be hazardous to your health if you accidentally breathe it in! hope this was helpful! regards babb

SOURCE: black ink smudges for color print mode only, not for grayscale

- Try to reallign the cartridge, run a print test, after that if the issue still persist - uninstall and reinstall software - run test and re-allign again the cardtridge using software. run print test again.

SOURCE: smudges on items printed

Take the cartridge out and shake it, when you do this thought make sure you cover where the toner goes out of or you'll make a mess! I had this same issue with my laser printer and this resolved it.

If that doesn't fixya then you may want to clean the rollers you can buy sheets to run in them.

SOURCE: 4 - black ink smudges (1/32" wide x 1/16" high) in right margin

Very nice trouble shooting. The image defect you describe point to the OPC or drum unit this is essentially the toner cart. In your case black. Measureing the distance between repetitive defects is a sure way of diagnosing problems such as yours. Again nice work.

Google repetitive defect ruler for your model to help in the future.

Hope this helps

My HP 4100 printer prints with a black smudge clear down the page. I clean the roller but continues to print bad copies. Should I replace the cartridge?

Problem is either the cartridge or the fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. When the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the
top cover. Pull out the toner, look down at the paper.
If it has the smudge replace the toner. If no smudge, replace the fuser.

If this just started after you replaced the toner cartridge, one would have to say that it is a bad toner cartridge.
Print something that smudges. Pull down the front cover and look at the cartridges. Pay attention to the top one(black).
Look at the drum on that cartridge. You should see the toner sitting there. Compare it to the other cartridges which should be clean.

Gray smudge on edge of paper

If you get only black smudge even when you're printing in color your problem is most likely the black cartridge. If it smudge in colors look at your transfer belt, open the front door, the big belt that hangs on the door.

I got smudges when i print ,how can i clean this

It looks like you've managed to get some ink on the rollers. 3 Possible solutions:-

1) Check your printer maintenance menu, there may be a roller cleaning option.

2) Print a document which has printable data on almost all lines, but with empty cartridges. You'd be using a piece of paper more or less as a mop.

3) Final alternative, it getting right into your printer and cleaning it by hand. Printer ink is water soluble so damp cloths/cotton buds should be man enough for the job. The parts you need to concentrate on are the rollers and the small sponge wells underneath where the print cartridges rest.

Printing black smudges across the page at 10 cm intervals

Most likely cause by the drum unit. Replace drum or upgrade printer.

Too much toner on paper which then smudges

Try reducing the print resolution using the menu buttons. Does it smudge with coloured prints? If so then the fuser unit is faulty. If it is only black that smudges it is likely to be the K Developer unit. Ensure that you are using genuine toners, not refills or third party as the quality of toner can cause similar results.

PIXMA 830 Smudges when printing envelopes

On my MP780, be careful to select the appropriate paper type; I was getting black smudges on the left side of my envelopes until I explicitly set that my paper type was "envelope" from "plain paper".
Another idea is to adjust the "ink drying wait time" to a higher level.
