Trunk pull Down Motor Suddenly stopped working

The pull down motor suddenly stopped working, This is a stretched town car. How do i test motor? Where can i find the fuse box/ boxes? If you have fuse box diagram it would be helpfull "Trunk pull Down Motor Suddenly stopped working" Checked 40 Amp fuse (109) under the hood-- OK. With the trunk open, the trunk ajar light on the dash does not come on. The trunk light does not come on either. I disconnected the 2 wire connector going to the pulldown motor. I checked to see if there was any voltage (12 volts) and there was none going to the moter. Took the pulldown assy. apart, Took the bar that the motor moves to pull down the trunk out, Pulled the catch up and replaced the bar so the trunk would be in the open position. I reassembled everything. When I close the lid, it just latches, it does not pull down. I don't know what else to do. I have an owners manual.

Did it quit making the noise when you lightly push down on the trunk? most people slam these trunks and your not suppose to you are only to put light pressure on them and they pull it closed theirself.. you might check your relays under the hood and look in the box lid to see which one it is.. if this is not the problem you might have to replace the motor to the latch .. you might check with a test light to see if there is power to the motor first though .. thanks and holler if you have more Jerry .

Why doesn't pull down switch grab the trunk lid?

There's a motor that pulls the trunk lid down after it latches. The motor is under the latch on the body side. to test it, push a philips screwdriver shank into the latch like it was grabbing the trunk pull down motor to see if it triggers the motor to operate

96 Lincoln Town car trunk will latch but the part that brings the trunk all the way down is not working

look under the cover under the trunk lid, and the motor that pulls the lid down. sometimes the bolts come loose and the motor slides, or a wire is loose on the motor or the fuse is blown. good luck and let me know if I can help more.

Trunk pull down in 1993 lincoln town car

There is a switch near the latch thats attached to the body of the car. It connects directly to the motor for the latch. This is the number one cause of this problem.
You could check the motor operation by removing the switch (1 Torx screw & pull it up). Then connecting 12 volt leads to the 2 contacts on the motor itself. One way it should move up the other it should go down. The 3 wire connector has both positive and negative 12 volts. The polarity switches from the position of the switch on the trunk lid by the latch.
The switch is about $30 on eBay and the switch and motor are about $150. Search for trunk pulldown switch for availability and pictures.

I have a 1996 lincoln towncar and the trunk isn't closing all the way. from what i have read it is probably the pull down motor???? could you tell me where that is located and what to do to test it to see...

The pull down motor is easy to change open your trunk and look where it latches thats your pull down motor it is probably 3 10 milimeter bolts you will probably have to take out the plastics that cover it up and push back or remove the trunk liner material by it. change your motor and you will have to adjust the motor by lightly snugging the bolts and closing the trunk till it is in the right position then tighten bolts and reinstale liner

Trunk does not completely close

The trunk latch contains a switch which closes when the trunk lid is pushed closed by hand, then this switch sends power to the trunk lid pull down motor which then finishes closing the trunk lid. Often the switch or motor will go bad and the whole thing will stop working. It takes a little testing to figure out which part is at fault but they are usually quite easy to fix.

97 town car trunk pull down stopped working ???

i pulled entire lower assembly off, removed motor casing and found that the plastic ring gear that pulls the truck down was stripped. I then pulled the whole thing apart using simple tools and turned the ring gear by hand to about 3/8 inch above the full down position. I then reassembled and re-installed without the switch and without the motor. Trunk closes like a normal trunk now (no pull down obviously. I am not a mechanic and it only took about an hour and two beers, no money. 93 lincoln town car.
Note: you will need torx bits but that is the only thing "specialized" in the operation

Trunk wont pull shut.

You have a pull down switch that activates the pull down motor for the trunk lid to close. The manufacture of this part supplies this to Ford & General Motors vehicles. You can go to a Cadillac dealership & purchase this part far cheaper than at Ford. I use to work at a GM dearlership & my neighboring Ford dealer would order this part from me for the cost of mine where less than the cost from Ford. Figure those guys out at Ford. No wonder they don't need a goverment bailout
