IBM T30 Screen Problems

With out any waring I turned on my T30 Laptop and the bottom 1/3 of the screen is just lines and mixed up colors. The rest of the screen is working fine with no problems. Any suggestions on whatis wrong and how to fix or do I need to buy a new screen?

More likely than a cracked screen was a bad connector. Having a band (vertical or horizontal) of random lines and colrs is typical of a bad connector. Odd as it may sound, you can try to diagnose whether this is really the case by squeezing carefully (not too hard) around the edges of the screen. On many different models you will find that when you get to a certain spot and squeeze lightly the problem will change or even disappear temporarily. For the more adventruous you can also try lightly twisting the casing. I've had this work on dozens of machines with similar symptoms.

My ibm T30 thinkpad screen is not working

Hi there,
It's hard to say, but if I understood correctly, your screen still functions as long as it does not stay on for a long time.
There are three possibilities
1- Video card (If you have an external monitor, plug it in and see if the same issue occurs. If so, the video card is the issue)
2- The flat cable which carries the signal from the video card to the LCD screen. (Does moving lid only (screen) causes it to behave differently? (If so, it may be the flat cable)
3- The LCD itself (In case none of the above apply)

IBM T30 screen has lines going through it the display already replaced the lcd.

I had the same laptop. Despite the fact that this has been the most reliable laptop for me, when it was on it's last leg I had the same problem as you.
Your problem is still probably a faulty LCD screen, but also likely is that your laptop is starting to die. If you want to try having a new LCD installed, that may fix the problem but do so knowing it may not fix it.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Dear user,
Good day! It seems that your laptop has hardware problem... Maybe the inverter, your LCD screen, VGA, BIOS, or even motherboard. I suggest for you to go to your nearest computer technician to diagnose it manually.

My T30 turns on but the screen doesnt work?

Try to attach EXTERNAL MONITOR to check if you have display from External Display and to confirm that your Laptop System is still working. If you got display from external monitor, therefore you have a faulty LCD / Inverter (gives your LCD a back-light)

Ibm laptop

This is caused by a component fault. The culprit is usually the memory card slot. The design of the laptop is bad. The Memory modules rest on the door. This causes (after some time) the slot to develop cracks in the soldier points. The fix is to get a new board or try to soldier it yourself. good luck

T30 startup problems...

We can start with the easy stuff first. Move the memory chip to the other slot. Remove the small square plate on bottom of the laptop. You'll need a really small screw driver for this. If you have two chips, remove one and see if the laptop will boot-up.
