Just basically have to hook it up to the PC and reload the firmware. (Tnough it seems the company is no longer in business, you might be able to find the firmware update file out on the net somewhere.) Seems to freeze up more if I have the SD memory card in there. Had better luck with some types of SD cards than others (faster speed cards seem to cause me less probs.) or backup the music etc, and restore the player to factory settings. good luck.

My apple 30GB has sad face /www.apple.com/support/ipod

Hi, you may want to try reset your iPod: 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

My Ipod Video 30 GB shows a sad face. What do i do?

It looks like there is some kind of software problem with your iPod.
First, power up your iPod (showing the sad face). Try pressing the center and menu buttons at the same time, and holding it like this until the iPod shuts off (after about 5 seconds). This should 'force-restart' the iPod.
If this doesn't work, plug your iPod into your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod in the left-hand menu and click Restore. Note that all songs/photos/videos will be erased by this procedure.
Should this also fail, you can try leaving your iPod turned on (with the sad face), and wait for the battery to completely run out (the iPod should not turn on at all anymore). Leave the iPod unpowered for about an hour, recharge it, and retry the above steps.
Hope this helped,
tS

Shows a sad face

this will sound really dumb, but I just spent the last 3 hours trying to get my boyfriends I-pod to work, it had the sad face, and I got a tad frustrated and banged it on my Chem book, and it totally fixed it. LOL. Id say its worth a shot, I just hit the side you plug into the computer on my open book, totally fixed it. Good luck!

Sad face apears on screen..

Plug your IPod back into ITunes. Eject it again.

If it still happens, plug your Ipod back into Itunes and restore it back to factory settings.

Then the sad face should make you happy once again.

Rave mp

This means that your unit is defective and is no longer working. The hard drive is bad.

I have bought 3 of these players. All of them worked for a while then had the eventual face/bug on the screen after turning the unit on. When the customer service number DID work, they said that the unit was defective and to return it to the store and get another.

This happened to me, like I mentioned, with 3 different units.
