Brushes wont rotate, no blockage and seal working perfectly. there is no difference when I turn on and off. but the noise when a turn on, for brushes to rotate.is louder. It was just turning slowly and then stopped. is there a little belt inside the vaccum head for rotation. regards

I don't know what model you own, but all the models I owned did have a driving belt for the brushes. Usually situated at the bottom and can be accessed by removing the screws from the bottom cover. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Brush won't spin when position of handle changes

The belt for this machine is very specific and only one size fits. It is not uncommon for vac shops to sell the wrong belt because the proper belt is not available from normal supply houses, so they will substitute something they think will work.

Also, assuming you do have the right belt, check the tension arm that drops down on the v-belt when the handle is brought back. This arm has a wheel/bearing with a plastic "tire" or trim that rolls on the belt to tighten it. Sometimes, this tire cracks and falls off and then the remaining bearing won't have the necessary tension to tighten up the belt.

SOURCE: 6 rotating brushes

When you turn on the Vac with the brush strip NOT installed does the part that engages the brush strip turn at all? If so, when you install the brush strip see if the will turn when no pressure is applied to the brushes (tilt the Vac back). If none of this works, then the switch that engages the brushes when the unit is not fully upright may be broken. If the part that engages the brushes turns but won't turn when the brush strip is engaged then one of the parts that mate up it most likely stripped. Let us know what you discover!

SOURCE: The rotator brush stopped turning. it turns fine

The brush roll will only spin when your handle is not in the locked upright position, once the handle goes upright - the brushroll de-activates

When switch to carpet, the difference is that the brush roller turns. When it is on hard floors setting it doesn't. Remove the base plate, remove the brush and the belt. There is likely something wrapped around the drive spindle or clutch.

The beater brush on carpet attachment wont go around and it is making a huge whining noise all filters checked and ok is there a belt which may need replacing? chris

Hi there,

If the brush bar is not rotating it is likely caused by a blockage of some kind.

Please note, not all turbine heads have belts as the power comes from the airflow (hence turbine) and not from a built driven mechanism like an upright vacuum.

Please have a look at the following link which should help you take apart the head and check for a blockage.
How to remove blockage

Another aspect to consider is that as the mechanism is driven by the airflow, a lack of airflow could impact on the brush bar as well so it is worth making sure all the necessary filters are washed and everything is in order.

If you continue to have difficulty, please give the Dyson Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), 0800 298 0298 (UK). Our experts will be happy to talk you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

Sebo upright barged hoover- good suction using hose, brush wont turn, sounds fine when running, nasty wineing noise when stopping?? help!! i love my hoover, have checked for bolckages....

The real clue seems to be the brush is not turning, a bad belt is possible or a blockage at that head, if you cannot get the brush moving the rest does not matter.

Brushes don't spin

Remove the bottom cover and replace the broken drive belt. Check that the brush will rotate freely--likely everything is jammed with hair and dust. The brush assembly should just lift out of the case and the end bearings will pull off. The brush needs to be removed to install a new belt anyway. There should be a diagram that shows how to install the belt (it has a half-turn twist).

Suction loss on dyson animal

Hi.

Keep the axe on hold try this first.

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.

Brushes wont turn

Remove the brush block, turn the unit on its side and watch the square hole to see if it rotates. If not, then the turbine(#23) isn't working, if it is, then is the shaft on top of the brush block broke off, if it is, replace the brush block.
