Screen goes black, but power light is on (not blinking)

Dell E173FPb. I turn it on, screen looks great, stays on for 3 seconds, then goes black. Power light is still green, not blinking. I can turn it off, and then turn it right back on again and it works. Then, after 3 seconds it goes black again. What can be the problem?

The problem is not the Video card. It is the monitor. I have 4 computers in my house, and have connected it to all of them. I get the same results. I have been in the IT field for nearly 10 years. Normally I just throw the monitors out when they stop working properly, but my Client does not want to buy a new one at the moment, and I for some reason am curious as to what causes the problem and if it is reasonable to try and fix. As I am not billing the Client hourly, I am not worried about the amount of time it takes to fix, and they wouldn't care either. I have heard that it may be a problem with the transisters or transformers on the monitors board. Any thoughts?

The problem is not with your screen. Its the problem of Video Card of your system which is unable to send Video Signals to the Screen.

Hi there! You can test first if the monitor is working. Disconnect it from the computer then turn it on after that it should show you colors on the screen this means its working if not then its no use trying it on a different computer.

Hope this helps!

MY DELL E173FPb FLAT MONITOR WILL NOT COMPLETELY POWER UP IN GOES

Most common failure in this model is shorted transistors in the inverter circuits caused by poor solder connections, see pictures here for guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Dell%20E173FPb/

Monitor goes blank after 3 seconds -Samsung SyncMaster 920NW

Could be a power issue. If it doesn't show anything at all then that may be the case. It may also be the display itself. It would be a costly repair so you might be better off finding a new monitor.

Monitor E172FP only fashes on then turns black.

its a bad solder/heat problem with the power board you need to repalce eaither the board or parts on the board the parts on the board are:

Q743 - FU9024N
Q741 - FU9024N
Q759 - 2SC5707
Q739 - 2SC5707
Q760 - 2SC5707
Q740 - 2SC5707

and part PF751 the black fuse - 3A 125V

i don't promise that this will fix it but its worth a shot

Video cards that can handle two monitors at the same time have cables with two plugs on the monitor end.

If your video cable has two plugs on the monitor end, try the other plug.
