When I put my SIM card in it just says sim card is missing. Sometimes it will recognize it, sometimes it won't.
"The SIM Card is missing. You can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it." HTC 8925
The phone worked fine for about a year or so, with this same SIM Card. I have cleaned the SIM Card contacts, and verified it is installed correct.
I posted a little too early. There was one other trick I've used and I guess I should have started with that. The problem is indeed related to the SIM not getting enough downward pressure on the contacts to be recognized.
So I took a small strip of paper, about 3/8" by 1 1/4". I folded it three times. When you fold it one end will be closed and the other end will have the two edges of the paper that can open up. Using the open end will make it harder to slide under the bracket. So you will want to take the closed end and gently side it above the SIM card underneath the silver metal bracket that holds the SIM in place.
I used a post-it note as the paper but anything will do. It was working with just a double thickness but I wanted to be sure so I moved up to three layers. Depending on the tolerances of your phone you might be able to only do double layer and still be able to slide it in. Or you might need to go to four layers.
I hope this solves it for you.

Yep I agree with the paper trick. My SIM card was not being recognized so after resetting my phone AND getting a new SIM card I finally folded up a small piece of tissue and pushed the cover down until I heard a little click and locked it as much as I could. Seems to work now! Hooray! Simple, but seems like a common problem with this phone.

Thanks for your post, anonyuser125.
I've found this thread using google, after my Samsung SGH-D830 started continuously setting itself to SOS-mode when the tilt is (was?) closed. Also, as it was laying on the table next to my laptop, I sometimes noticed how it was sort of resetting itself (rebuilding it's connection).. One time it showed a SIM-card reading error :P
Hopefully your paper-fix will work here as well! :)

I have the same problem. Mine worked for a year and a half and randomly stopped working. I tried doing a hard reset and it still doesn't work. I even changed out SIM cards.
Just posting incase it helps others to figure out how wide spread a problem this could be. I have an 8925 that is about 9-12 months old and it developed the exact problem, reporting no SIM was installed. I've flashed the ROM to 1.62, tried numerous SIMs, cleaned contacts and card. Nothing has helped.
I even tried a trick I had to use on an older different phone. I opened the SIM door, flipped the tiny switch to the closed position so it doesn't think the door is opened. Put downward pressure on the SIM during the entire boot process, but that didn't help either :(.
It works sometimes, maybe 1 out of 50 boots. I confirmed the SIM works in a different unit every time.
Different, yet same problem.... I get the same Sim Card missing error, but ONLY when my Tilt is closed! If I leave it open during boot, it sees the Sim card, and I can make calls. If I close it, the signal disappears and eventually the Sim card symbol shows up. If I RE-OPEN it after it can't find the card, goto Wirless Manager, put it in Airplane Mode, then back into phone mode, it will find the Sim, and reconnect my signal. I just tried the paper in b/w the metal brackett trick to no avail. Anyone have any ideas or clue to what I should do? Thanks in advance!
