Company file in use message when several users access the file

Pop up message ''Company file in use'' when several users access the data file yet it is a multi user environment quickbooks software.
Then a certain user is performing a task please wait before you continue delaying the whole process and a slow response time.

Unfortunately the multi user part of your software means multi installation and not multi same file opened.

If you think about it, it would be pretty much impossible to provide such a feature. If Joe and Bob both have the same file opened and both make a change to line 1, who gets to save their version? Computers are dumb beasts that can only do what they are told to do, and fortunately effort is expended when software is written to avoid exactly the above situation.

This is an inconvenience for many more people than you (myself included) but at least at the current state of computer and software development it is impossible to avoid.

Delays are usually because the computer is doing processing work, it needs more memory, more disk space or faster disks or leaner software that makes more efficient use of the system it is running on, or even that the software has to commit changes to disk before it can start the next requested process. Without more specific information I am unable to narrow it down. It might be worth going to the Intuit website to see if they have an update or a workaround.

This is correct behavior, to prevent the document from getting out of sync. Only one user can use a file at a time. If you need multiple people to use the same file you need to have them working on multiple copies of that file, then merge the data from the multiple copies back into a master file. So - MASTERCOPY-->COPY1, COPY2, COPY3...

If this is a real time program changes should be able to be made simutaniously. Check with your IT department, they may have to increase the allowed user #. If your position is top priority, some programs will allow more than one "super user" profile, the "super user" can make changes at anytime, but that profile is subject to corporate approval.

User logon error for 2004

From quoted information from Peachtree's KB system:
Go to Task Manager by pressing the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys and on the Processes tab look for W32MKDE.EXE, click to highlight and choose End Task. If W32MKDE.EXE is not shown, close Task Manager.

Go to Start, Find or Search for conn*.* Be sure you are searching the DATAPATH for these files.

Select all connco and conndp files from your datapath and choose delete.

Since you are using Peachtree First R2004, you will then need to go to Start, Run, and type in PFA110.INI and hit enter. This will open it in Notepad.

Scroll down to the [Options] section and look for the line ShowStartup=No, change this to read ShowStartup=Yes.

Look for the line LastCompanyOpen=[company name] where [company name] would be your last company opened company name. Delete the FULL company name after the equal sign.

Look for the line LastCompanyOpenShort=[company short name] where [company short name] would be your last company opened Folder Name. Delete the company folder name after the equal sign.

Select File from the menu bar and choose Save. Close the ini file.

Open Peachtree and select one of the sample companies. After the sample company opens, select File, Open Company and open your company data.

The connection to the company file has been lost Quickbooks must close immediately. Any unsaved data will need to be re-entered. My Company file is damaged and i have tried opening it on the another...

You will need to verify and rebuild your data file. Please follow the steps i provided, this will guide you threw the process.

Verify your data:

1. Close and reopen QuickBooks to create a new Qbwin.log file.
2. Choose Window > Close All, so that no company files or QuickBooks windows are open.
3. Choose File > Utilities > Verify Data.
* If you see QuickBooks detected no problems with your data, your data is clean. Click OK.
* If you see Your data has lost integrity, your data file is damaged. Run the Rebuild Data utility to repair the damage. You may need to run Rebuild two or more times to repair all of the damage. Rerun the Verify Data utility after each rebuild to verify that the errors have been corrected.
* If your see A data problem prevents QuickBooks from continuing, then your data file has a structural problem. Run the Rebuild Data utility to repair the damage.

Rebuild your data:

Important: If the company file is on a network drive, copy the file to a local computer before attempting to run this utility. Be prepared for this computer to be unavailable for several hours running the Rebuild utility. Never rebuild or update a company data file that is located on a remote drive (for example, by accessing it over your network).

If you can't open QuickBooks to run the Rebuild Data utility refer to QuickBooks does not open.

If you're unable to open your company file when double-clicking your QuickBooks desktop icon, see Opening QuickBooks when troubleshooting.

To rebuild the file:

1. Choose Window > Close All.
2. Choose File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.
3. Click OK to the warning message requiring a backup of the company file before starting the rebuild.

Important: Do not replace your current backup. Intuit recommends using a newly formatted external media source for this backup (such as a CD or DVD). If necessary, back up to your local hard drive.
If a message appears asking if you want to replace the backup file, click No.
To avoid overwriting the current file, enter a new name in the Filename field.

4. At the bottom of the QuickBooks Backup window, click OK.

Important: If the backup process fails, at the Rebuild prompt, click Cancel.
Do not continue the Rebuild process with your original company file if the back up process does not complete successfully. This can lead to permanent data loss.
You must make a copy of the company file and attempt the Rebuild process again using the copy of the company file.
Rename the copy of the company file with a unique name to avoid confusion with the original file.

5. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup process completes. Click OK to the Rebuild has completed message.
6. Close the company file, and then reopen it to refresh the lists in the file:
1. Choose File > Close Company.
2. Open the company file:
* QuickBooks 2008 and 2007: Choose File > Open or Restore Company. Then select Open a company file and click Next.
* QuickBooks 2006: Choose File > Open Company.
7. Click the company file, and click Open.
8. Run the Verify Data utility.

Error message

Hi beulah_jane,

What version of Simply Accounting are you using? 2007? 2008? 2009? Using Windows XP or Vista? Are the Simply files stored locally on the C drive or on a network? Can you open a sample company or are you getting the same error?

If you're trying to open the file using a shortcut to the data file itself, try using the Simply Accounting Program shortcut and then opening your file. If you're getting an encountered an error message, try searching through our knowledgebase.

In either case, I or another user can help you in our Simply Accounting Community at www.simplyaccounting.com/community

This includes a free Knowledgebase, Discussion Forum and blogs that you'll have access to. You may even find your answer already posted by another user in the forum. We have several knowledgeable users and our business partners going through the forum as well that can help you as well.

I hope this helps.

Sage 50 Accounts 2008

I think I got the solution for you ...

User Name is Already in Use / Cannot Access YYY because XXX is logged in

Typically, when you get this message you will be asked if you want to remove the user from the request list. If you are asked this question, simply answer Yes and you'll be able to continue.

An alternative solution is to go in the data folder for your sage data (the default folder for versions prior to 14 is c:\program files\sage\accounts\accdata for v14, the folder is c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sage\accounts\2008\company.000\accdata on XP and c:\programdata\sage\accounts\2008\company.000\accdata. In the data folder, you will find a file called QUEUE.DTA - delete the file and you should be able to get back into Line 50. If you have a multi user version of Line 50, you should only delete this file if you are sure that no-one else is using Line 50.
