Hi, issues like this are related to your Sim card (network), not your Cell Phone . In most cases, regarding the text messages, the problem is from the Service Operator. Have you tried the Sim card on another phone? If not, remove the Sim card, insert it on another phone and try sending a message from another mobile to you number, or you can do it in vise- versa by inserting another Sim card on your mobile.
If you can't receive text messages even when it's inserted on another handset, then you will need to call the customer care of your Network Operator and tell them your problem, they will help you fix it immediately.
You can check the message center number, but I don't think it's very much important in your case, well, if you wanna try, just check the text message settings and verify that the message center number (which is currently in use) is the same number which is on another phone with the same network (the other Sim should be of the same network in your area). If it's different, make the changes and save the settings. Also disable the "Receive Via" or similar settings.. (I can't recollect the exact settings as i don't have the same model with me, please excuse me for this.).
If the same Sim card doesn't receive text messages using another handset, don't bother to change the settings or to make any changes with it, first call the customer care and verify from them, you may make mistakes instead of fixing it.
I am not familiar with Alcatel mobiles but I can help you find out the cause of the problem. This issue is another very common with many mobile users, and there are two main cause, 1. Message (sms) center and 2. Service(Network) Operator.
To fix the first one, you have to check the message center number, I hope you have another sim card with the same network. If you don't have, simply insert the sim card (your daughter's) on another mobile and try sending a message, how is it? If Yes, follow the next para, if No, then skip the next para..
After it's verified that there's no issue sending message from another handset with the same sim card, find out the message settings and locate the message center [should be inside the message > message settings > text message > message settings] and note down the message center number. After it's done, remove the sim card and insert it on the other (your daughter's) mobile, find and locate the message center number and compare with the one you've noted down (including the code before the 10 digit number) then replace with the one you've got from the other phone (exactly as it's shown on the other phone), save it and try sending text message again. It should work now.
If it's 'No' then call the customer care of the Network Operator and ask them to fix it. Must be from their side, simply the feature can be disabled or enabled by them. They'll let you know the current status of the sim card regarding text message.
Honestly I apologize that I can't give you the exact sequence to get into the message settings and to the message center, but I hope at least you'll be able to understand my instructions.
I use a sidekick Lx for At&t that I unlocked myself. When you start up your sidekick it should ask you for a network unlock or ask you to enable your sim card just click the cancel key on the top right of your device. Now click the top left menu button and go into your settings, and go to 'sim center' it'll ask you to enable your sim card again just enter a random 4 digit number and it'll tell you its wrong but thats ok, click ok and just cancel it out :) it'll then show you "disable sim lock" "change sim pin" change your sim pin to a number you'll remember because the way im showing you you'll have to do this every time you restart your phone (my sim pin was by default 1111) you can enter the same pin number for the old sim pin, and new sim pin options. Once you do that a white phone icon should appear on your screen underneath your time and date. Now, go back into your settings and go to network options, scan and select your network manually, and there you go :) Sorry though with all unlocked phones you'll only be able to make calls and text. No picture messaging sadly :( You need a T-mobile sidekick plan for all that :(
you have entered the pin code wrong 3 times now you are required to enter a puk code to reset the pin code.
The puk code is sim card spesific it comes with the sim card when you get it or you can get it by calling your phone service provider of the sim card to get the puk code.
if you have entered the puk code wrong too many times you will make the sim card useless and you will have to contact your phone service provider for a new sim card, it will probably cost.
you have to phone 07973100450 from a land line. it will ask you for your phone number a few times then it will pass you to a REAL person who will ask you ask you a few security questions like what are the last four numbers of your top-up card and vol lia that is how you get your four digit id code!!!!!!!
