Sorry I don't have a solution but have a similar problem. I replaced the steering pinion gear in hopes that would resolve the problem, but it didn't. The steering pinion gear is located at the bottom of the steering shaft and turns the steering gear. Looks like the steering gear needs to be replaced as well. The nuts securing the steering gear are accessible in the same area as the pinion steering gear. I am going to order a replacement steering gear and attempt to replace it.

Generally there are two types of wires , power , and sound. The power wires will usually be black , red , and yellow or orange. Might also have a blue one. Black is ground , Red is constant power , yellow or orange is accessory power ( only energized when key turned on) .
If you have a blue wire , it sends out power when stereo is on , to power an electric antenna or turn on an external amp. All other wires will be in colored pairs. For example Green and Green with a black stripe , Grey , and Grey with a black stripe , purple and purple with a black stripe.......These are all speaker wires , the solid color one is the + and the one with the stripe is the - , EG: Grey might be right front + , and Grey with black stripe would be right front -
