DSC-F717 - "stucked" in nightshot mode

Without previous notice, every time I try to put the camera ON, the 'nightshot' mode become active (right light is ON while selection button is in the middle position). Have made 'reset' without results, Unable to put it OFF. It's possible that just the selection button is damage?

I have the same problem with the "NIGHTSHOT" light staying lit even when the button is clearly in the middle position. The screen display as well as the view-finder display are distorted - kind of psychedelic in pinks and purple as well. I've reset and turned off the "hologram AF"...nothing seems to change.

I am in the same situation. I chatted with a technician extensively and he ;suggested several things, none worked. Finally he gave me the service information. Flat rate is $ 211 plus the shipping, Should I spent the money? No other solution in sight at the moment. Prospect of losing down the drain some planned obsolescence in this camera.

The same "stuck" happened to me. I believed the comments they thried everything. NAH. Try the reset button near the battery. I reset the camera four times, and it worked.

Yes you are right, it is more than likely the nightshot button that has shorted.

This is button is part of what we call the Switch control Block.

Phone your local Sony service Centre and ask them how much it would cost to replace the switch control block. My estimate is about a 1/5 of the original cast you paid for the camera.

Good luck.

Can't turn off nightshot on my handycam help!!!

Option 1:

Using the NightShot:

1. First Set the POWER Switch to Camera, Slide NIGHTSHOT to ON.

2. The NIGHTSHOT indicators flash on the screen.

3. To cancel the NightShot mode, Slide NIGHTSHOT to OFF.

Option 2:

1. Let us try to reset the Camcorder and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

2. Locate the RESET button behind the LCD screen of the Camcorder.

3. The Camcorder should be switched ON when you reset the unit. Press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.

NOTE: Resetting the Camcorder will reset the settings of the Camcorder to the factory settings including date and time. It will not delete any data saved in the Camcorder.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shooting mode shows nothing.

Hello,

I just had this issue with my camera (my 15 year old son solved it for me ;-) ).

The viewfinder was active in "record" mode and the LCD was "active" because you could see a little back light but no image. The "playback" mode would let me review pictures in the LCD though so I know it is capable of showing information.

If you push the display key/button a couple of times you can see the picture move from the viewfinder to the LCD and have just a picture and or a picture and information.

So try setting the camera to "record" mode (lens comes out) and then push the "display button" which is on the back of the camera just to the right of the LCD on the lower right side several times and see if the LCD starts to work.

It could be that somehow the display button was pushed by mistake.

Pentax ME SLR Camera

Push the small white button down and turn the select to B or Flash mode the shutter should fire at 1/60th sec. in flash mode. As long as you want in B mode. Turn select to A
put lens on and check shutter speed in finder. Rotate F stop on lens and bring shutter speed to over 1/100 sec. push shutter button, it should fire at the speed you selected.
If not check battery cap and contacts in bat. holder, clean with pencil eraser if needed. Be careful with contacts in holder.
If it still locks up remove lens and rotate to F/16 push metal pin in and check operation of diaphragm, it should be smooth and pin return quickly.
If the shutter still locks in auto that's about it---- no parts are available

NIGHT SHOT USED W/ TOO MUCH LIGHT MAY HAVE WRECKED IT.

"Nightshot" mode removes infrared filter from light path, fixes exposure to 1/60th second and sets iris to maximum.

Probably bad CCD, possibly could salvage from another camera.
Cameras are easy to take apart, but ribbon cables are VERY delicate and difficult to remove from connectors on main board.

My suggestion is to buy another camcorder, which uses the same tape and to use the old one to rewind tapes and for video transfers.

Does the W1 have infrared abilities?

The Sonys with Nightshot are best at IR, IMHO. The W1 does not have this feature. I imagine it could take IR pics in Manual mode, but the exposures would have to be so long that picture quality would suffer to an unacceptable degree, IMO. The V1 has nightshot, and the price on them has come way down since the V3 was introduced. If you want to get into IR, I suggest a V1.
