Camera dropped with zoom out, now jammed and the small cylinder with the shutter and lens is tilted. When it powers up the gears engage , the zoom does a quick attempt at moving and then it beeps ,"lens error restart camera" and shuts off. Tried adjusting, pressing, pulling and whapping against palm but nothing doin'.Can I repair or is it a lost cause?

Mine dropped when i was doin time lapse without a tripod once, had this problem. mine had the middle ring jammed lightly out of place, i gently snapped it back, and it works fine still. seems like i had to take off the innermost silver ring to realign one of the retractable lens covers(black plastic things) good luck!

When i turn on the camera the lens wont pop open even when the battery is fully charged.... i was taking pictures and it working fine turn the camera off and on again then the lens wont open anymore? i can...

The problem is
1- some dirt somehow got on the outside of the lense. After it was retracted fully in, it prevents the camera from opening again. When you turn it on, if it opens a little bit, try to pull it out NOT too hard and let go a few times. If it opened, clear the outside of the lense. Your camera should be back to normal.
2- If you droped the camera, you probably damaged or dislocated a mechanical part of the lense. You may have to take out the lense by unscrewing it and inspect it for damged parts or disconnected cable. Make sure clean the lense and test it by moving it in and out a few times, before puting it back on the camera.

Good luck!!!!!!!

My canon SD850 IS digital camera is not even a year old and well taken care of. I thasnt been dropped and is already broken? What do i do...everytime i turn it on all of the sudden the lense is stuck poped...

Take a look at the suggestions at the top of page 122 of the Advanced Camera User Guide. The suggestion is that the cause may have been that the camera was still on when the memory card/battery cover was opened. Try closing the cover and then turning the camera off and then on again. Hope this helps.

Lens Error, Restart

Hi

What you are seeing is a generic stuck lens error message, turning off the camera and turning it on again will not fix the lens unfortunately.

Your lens needs to be cleaned or repaired, and if it cant be repaired it needs to be replaced. There are online places that will do it for a decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.

Fixya rules prevent me from giving you a link to anything off Fixya that would help you fix your camera.

Good luck from....

Cannon Power shot SD630 Lens Problem

I had the same problem, tried different things but this is what worked.

I put the camera flat on its "back" (screen down, lens up). Looking down at the lens I could see that it was slightly off center. I pushed the lens towards the center and down, forcing it to close. Once it was centered I was able to turn it on and off no problem.
