I have a scotsman mdt3 that will not make ice

Is the machine dispensing ice just after the cup is removed in front of the hands free sensors? If so then you need to add MDT portion controlled dispensing kit. A time - delay relay kit is now available for addition to the MDT3,MDT4, MDT5 and MDT6. The purpose of the kit is to limit the amount of ice dispensed per activation. The kit number is KPC-MDT. The kit includes a time delay relay and potentiometer. When the touch-free dispense system is activated, the time relay powers the dispense motor and / or door solenoid for a limited time. That time is adjustable to accommodate the cup or glass being used. a typical application for the kit is a high volume dispense situation where the amount of ice spilled is unacceptable. Spilled ice is usually caused by overfilling the container during dispensing,followed by the extra ice being dumped into the units drip tray.Adding the kit allows the amount of ice per per dispense to be set to match the amount an individual needs,so there is less waste. This is especially helpful on the MDT6, which is a high volume,rapid dispensing model. Now if the machine is just dumping ice when no one is around it, then replace the hands free sensor.

Dose the whole cube have a black tint to it? or dose it have black flakes in it? If all the ice has a solid black tent to it then check your water filter most all filters has charcoal in them when you change one out and apply water to them you need to dump the ice until you get clear ice. Now if it is just black flakes in ice than you need to clean the ice machine with scotsman cleaner nickle safe and scotsman sanitizer follow manufacturers instructions.

Making good ice. Could be cube size control. Could be a weak compressor. Also these machines are household and meant to run in air conditioned space.

Could be in need of cleaning with some nickleguard ice machine cleaner. Or maybe a restriction in the pump? How about a scotsman repair manual?

is the drain running clear is the condenser clean and are both spray nozzles in place?

Check that the condenser is clean, the plastic sheet is hanging over the opening and trhat both spray nozzles are in place.
