There is no sound but a static, bussing noise coming from my computer speakers. they were working perfectly yesterday. could it possibly be a virus? if or if not please help.

After reinstalling/installing an Operating System you can lose the Audio Drivers or sometimes they just corrupt.. Try reinstalling the Audio Drivers from the disk provide with your P.C./Laptop. If you no longer have the disk just visit the website of the makers of your P.C./Laptop or Motherboard and download the Audio Drivers from there, after that install them.
Thumbs up please if this works for you, thanks.

Dear Sir or Madam When I want to play a music on my computer , I get this error: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound...

Yes there is something wrong! The sound card driver is corrupted!

YOu need to check on device manager again. Look for your drivers there.

If you do not see the EXACT NAME of your sound card, then the driver that is installed is a DEFAULT driver made by the os.

Ex: This is a sound card driver name listed in Device manager:
IDT HIGH DEFINISION AUDIO

This is an example of a default sound card driver that will not work well on certain sounds or will not work at all:

LEGACY SOUND DEVICE

Even thought you many not see a yellow question mark (which you should be checking for too just in case)on any of the listings for your hardware, chances are you are still using a default sound card driver due to a corruption to its original sound card driver.

So recheck your device manager and find out the exact name of your original sound card. If there is no match to your exact name of your sound card, then you need to REINSTALL your sound card driver again and you will immediatly see your sound card working again :)

If this does not work, you may have to change your sound card.

Hope this helps :)

Device driver

Hey there byadava, when you reinstall an operating system, the memory gets totally wiped when it is reformatted. The result is that all the system drivers for your motherboard are also erased. You will need to get the drivers for sound, and other things as well. They can be found at the manufacturer's support site. They are free and you simply choose from a list of possible downloads they provide. If you need help with that step let me know, and please provide your model name and number. Good Luck!
