I used to get this, its wierd, but this works - i used to use crappy batteries, like big packs for a pound or 2 pound, but the screen was doing this with them, but if you use somethin like duracell, the really good batteries, then this problem doesnt happen, at all, and the battery life lasts for ages aswell, so its worth the money to spend on decent batteries, i promise

Camera takes grey photos

It's kind of difficult to troubleshoot or diagnose a problem if you don't specify the model camera you have. Canon has made over 120 different models. You can check this service notice and see if your model is mentioned in the list under Affected Products.

Turning camera on, gets "LENS ERROR" and just stays on screen, can't take pictures.

Take a look at the little 2 grey pieces that open and close over your lens when you turn it on and off. Those might be jammed, if so try to straighten them out. That would be the easy answer, otherwise you might have a problem with lens inside the camera in which case youll need to get it repaired.

Grey screen

Are you able to adjust the contrast or brightness? Try to turn them down to about 50%.

Pentax Optio

Normally there are two reasons for the given problem. 1). Bad or defective CCD. and/or 2). shutter not working. in the first case the only solution is the replacement of the CCD. and in the later case sticking of shutter blade, non functioning of shutter blade will cause the problem. This can be rectified by sending it to some repairer.
