Open Avira Antivirus.
Click "Update" and select "Manual Update".
Find the downloaded VDF or IVDF folder on your computer.
Select it and click "Open".
Avira will now update itself with the newest definitions.
A status screen will alert you when the update is complete.

AV Mode button on the Computer will not work if the Sony AV Mode Button Utility is missing or not installed correctly in the Computer.

To resolve the issue, you will need to re-install the Sony AV Mode Button Utility in the Computer.

You can view and download the AV Mode Button Utility from here.

Please download the file to a temporary download folder in the Computer. After that, please open the folder where the file is downloaded and double click the file to begin the installation.
Then, please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process. After installation, please restart the Computer for the settings to take the effect. This should fix the issue.

IFP-790 can be accessed in UMS and Manager mode:

UMS mode
For firmware upgrades iriver PLUS3 must be used.
Download iriver PLUS3 going to this site:
http://www.iriver.com/index.asp
Click Support on the left side.
Select Download in the second column.
Select "Download iriver PLUS3" in the page: allow download (when blocked / sometimes download has to be repeated).

The size of the iriver PLUS3 download is 59.3 MB.
iriver PLUS3 can also be used for music transfers in UMS mode.


Manager mode
For Manager type connection the iriver music manager must be downloaded and installed.

Go to the support site:

Select Support in the first column.
Download in the second column.
Enter the phrase 'music manager' and click GO:
download 'iriver music manager (Ver 3.21)' [ 28 MB].

Let your phone die, and then charge it up and see if it happens again. If it does, try to have it repaired or exchanged.

Hmmmm.... Hello jubest. I am a bit concerned that you even know how to get into download mode. Download mode prepares the copier to be reprorammed. This is used when the engineers at Canon who designed the machine determine that through R&D and real world encounters decide to update the software/firmware to better hone the device's ability better function in the real world. I would not call it dangerous to life and limb or to the enviroment where the device is being used for an untrained person to enter download mode. But I can assure you that it is extremely easy to render the copier unusable, although it can still be used as a great place to put a fish bowl or a no smoking sign if you decide to play around with "download mode".
