Ok, Guest @ solution #1 and #3 solved this for me.
Step 1. remove battery pack.
Step 2. Plug in to outlet.
Step 3. Insert desired disc.
Step 4. Toggle down on the "mode" lever for "Play-back" mode.
Step 5. Press "function"
Step 6. Scroll to and select "menu"
Step 7. Scroll to and select "disc options"
Step 8. Scroll to and select "Finalize"
Step 9. Scroll to and select "Yes"
Follow prompts from there.
This worked for me.

Thank you all!!!

PLUGGING IN THE ADAPTER WORKED!!!

WOOHOO!

I guess they don't want to risk running out of battery during finalisation (may kill the disk)

Thanks "Guest" owe you one..

I found that I had to use the viewfinder in order to get the disk to finalize. Using the screen didn't work -- I kept pressing 'finalize' but nothing happened. Then I remembered reading somewhere that you have to close the screen and use the viewfinder, which I did. Voila! It worked (finally!).

No solution.  Same problem.  There seems to be a problem lurking with the Canon DC210 in regard to finalizing.  (It was plugged in.)

Hi,

Are you using the AC adapter when trying to finalize? You cannot finalize using battery power only.

Link to your manual:

Canon DC210 Manual

(What format discs are you using?)

Instructions for finalizing begin on page 61.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Is there any way to finalize a mini dvd disc from a Canon DC210 without a working camcorder?

hi, i dont think so usely it as to be made by the camera, normally when you finish recording
you press pause and then stop and let it go for few minutes and the camera should finilize
the disk by chapter,then eject.

hope that will help

Initialize the discs then record...but then it still wont play on the computer/dvd player Canon camcorder dc210

I have a Samsung recorder, and it requires you to "finalize" the disc before it will play on another unit. Check your manual for specifics, or look in your menu for the "finalize disk" option. Hope this helps...

I want the pictures and video off my DVD-RW on to my computer

Yes, you must finalize to view the dvd in a stand-alone dvd player.

No, battery doesn't have to be charged but the camera does have to be plugged in to do finalizing.

After, finalizing the disk, and you are in fact using DVD-RW (re-writable) disks, yes you can un-finalize them within the Canon camera to record more video.

I have used the same 3 rewritable disks on my Canon over and over again to record many hours of footage.

My canon dc210 will not initialize or finalize

Check and make sure you are using - disks rather than + disks. I had that same problem when I first got mine and it was because I had + disks.

How does one transfer the video or 'still pictures' from Canon DC210 Camcorder onto their PC?

All you should have to do is finalize the disc. Put it in your DVD drive and select the scenes and photos. you need to have DVD playback software to play the disc also if its a DUAL layer disc you have to make sure the drive in your PC can play DL.
Enjoy,
