We have a Pioneer HTZ-BD91HW system with the XV-BD919FSW player. Whenever we play a DVD, if the scene is dark, the player automatically adjusts the picture to go even darker. It's extremely frustrating because we can't watch dark movies on the system very well. (Think the last Harry Potter movie...it's nearly impossible to watch on this system.) We've tried everything we can think of. Is there any kind of easy fix for this?

Question moved from Cameras to the Pioneer Model category. Why SHOUT it is in the wrong category when you could have put it in the correct one yourself? You have 10,000 to choose from :>D
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING, is RUDE and also harder to read.
The internal cooling fan has failed and needs replacing. Take it to your nearest Pioneer Service Centre. It is a cheap repair, or open it up and replace it or even vacuum up all the fluff and lubricate the fan.
You may have to turn to Pioneer authorized service. They may have a special remote that can accomplish this, but it can cost a bundle. Samsung players are easily turned region-free with the normal remote.
I have the same problem with my XV-DV333. Search on inet and this came up:
"...
Pick Out One Of These!
But I am unable to select any region using the remote control or the buttons on the player. What do I do?
You need to get a Pioneer Service Remote. When you have it you should press: [ESC] [A.MON] [Numbers], where [Numbers] correspond to the region number you want to set. Be aware that you can only set this once, if you set the wrong region number for your area, there is no turning back. "
WTF! Am I supposed to get a service remote to get this thing working again. I haven't done anything and it worked before:/
