57H84. (Don't know if it is a 57H84C, 57H84R, or just 57H84). Colors are fine for well lit or daytime backgrounds Low light or nighttime pictures loose the picture in the background. All that is seen are the faces. All other color fades into the darkness of the picture. The picture then looks like people are visible due to candlelight only. Can this be repaired or is it time to get a new TV

Yep, your problem is a relatively easy one to repair if you know how to solder. You better repair it before it blows the fuse though. There are two capacitors in the main power supply that are coming loose and need to be re soldered. There is a Toshiba service bulletin about it. They are marked C809 and C810 on the main power supply board. Good Luck

Take out the lamp and clean it. Look inside where the lamp was and you will see a thin peice of coloured plastic (colour wheel). Vacuum that plastic and all around it but don't touch it. This solution worked for me, and now my TV is as good as new.

SOURCE: 5 year old RCA 50 inch projection tv. Picture went off.

If you are using component cables make sure they are all connected properly( pushed all the way in and in the correct input). I have seen the red cable come loose several times and cause no red color in the picture. When you change the lamp it is easy to pull on one of those cables and cause it to come loose.

SOURCE: TV picture is red.

Normal color picture is composed with 3 colors R-G-B (Red-Green-Blue). Picture turns Red means: Missing Green and Blue colors (many reasons: bad contacts, projector tubes dead, and other...). Try to give some "tabs" to diagnose ... I don't know what is the type of your Projection TV, how long you owned it, to have more idea.

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

I have been offered a Toshiba 57H84R that has sound but no picture. What are possibilities of what needs to be repaired and the price range for doing so.

it could be as simple as the cable/ video & sound plugs just don't have a good connection on the inside. don't know how much that might cost.

LIghts shut off while driving and so did the dashboard lights, they will not come back on.

Seeing how I dont know if this is during the night or day, most berettas have daytime and automatic nighttime lights. The dashboard and the lights are connected together and if the sensor is saying that its daytime they are going to switch. I suggest checking your daytime running light sensor to see if it is getting to much saturation of light while driving at night. This could be confusing the computer and turning off the lights. Cant guarentee that this is fix it but its a good place to start.

Multiple flash firing

I would double check all your settings - even though you say it is on any flash setting, it sounds like it is using the nighttime flash setting (which does 2-3 rapid fire flashes).

Just go through every setting in the camera, and make sure that everything is set how you really want it, INCLUDING the daytime/nighttime, etc.

On the CAPTURE menu, check your adaptive light setting and make sure that you don't have it tweaked in some way to make the camera think EVERY picture is a nighttime picture.
I'd also check your "EV COMPENSATION" and "WHITE BALANCE", making sure those are set to "auto".

Hope that will work for you - good luck!
