My Acer Aspire 5720z Laptop usually has a Green Halo light on the power button, and the 2 other LED lights that are normally green are not normal too...
The Battery light and the Halo light are flashingback and forth from Orange and yellow, and the Battery light is flashing orange. The green hard drive light is locked on, and I'm afraid to turn off my comp, cuz idk if my hard drive is broken.
I had the same problem, removing the battery did not work for me. For a while it would start to boot, tell me the battery is empty and I need to plug in AC (but it was plugged in). Couple of restarts and it worked for a day and then just did not start up any more....
Di I need to change the whole motherboard or can I get away with just the DC power module? e-bay offer those cheap, compared to a motherboard... Most likely your battery is dead. If you are worried about your HD , the best thing to do would be to power it off. Remove the battery and see if it will boot on the AC adapter. If it boots , just get a new battery. If not you have a motherboard issue and need to call Acer if it is under warranty.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust. Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a can of compressed air to do this.

I've looked at this and sought advice from our Network systems and It people and I think the issues lies with the Graphics chip, or more probably, there may be an intermittent short in the power circuit, as the random flashing of the light is giving no clear error message
