Re:
Cracking open the notebook is not a good idea, as you will loose warranty. also you cannot just give the internals a good wipe down! everything is static damaged and just touching an IC with your fingertips will do damage! rather take it to an authorised repair man who will clean it out? .... whats it dirty from??

What did you clean it with?
What part of it did you clean? Inside outside?
If you cleaned the inside with a really damp cloth or even a regular vacuum you would have mostly ruined the computer.

On the bottom of the laptop there are two covers the smaller one is the memory the other is the hard drive. Shut down the laptop and remove the battery then remove the small screw and you will see the hard drive. You can then remove it; there may be another screw holding the bracket and there are few cables. Thanks for using FixYa

1) Was the laptop working normally before (starting up, running etc.?)
2) What OS do you have installed?
3) Did you install anything (hardware or software) just before the problem started?
4) Was the power suddenly shut down while the computer was reading or writing to the HD?
5) Was the HD disconnected while the computer was on or running?
Cleaning the vent is not enough in your case, Clean inside your Notebook mainly near Processor area( you may even need to remove the processor and reapply the Heat sink paste again and check if the CPU cooling fan is working properly or not. Clean it too.
