My Denon AVR-1802 is permanently stuck in tone defeat. The display actually shows that the tone defeat can be turned off and on, but the tone controls, ie. bass and treble do not alter the sound in any way, even when the Tone Defeat is not activated.

It doesn't seem to matter what mode it is in. I have tried adjusting the tone controls while in dolby digital mode, dts, analog, and the various EQ settings, and there is no change. I have not tried a factory reset, but I don't really know how that would be done on this receiver. Is it in the manual?

Is this only when using external inputs? The manual says the Tone Control will not function in Direct Mode. Try Stereo and various DSP surround modes to see if the Tone Control works.

Reference to the manuals is highly recommended. All controls and indicators are explained. There may actually be a clue on the front panel. Resetting the microprocessor is a last gasp solution and may only bury you deeper because it will zero out all settings.

You could try a total reset of the system. To do so, Press Power while simultaneously pressing Speaker A and Speaker B. When the display flashes at about 1 sec intervals, release all buttons. Then select a desired source as normal and see if it plays as expected.

replace all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. i had the exact same problem with mine and once i replaced the capacitors it powered up and stayed on and worked perfect.
these capacitors tend to fail as they're of poor quality.
this fault is very common on denon receivers, especially the later models.

hope this helps?

I am trying to use my Denon AVR-1802 to connect my cable box to my TV. The problem is that I don't have any speakers connected to the 1802, I just want to route the cable box's video and audio to the TV...

connect your analog output from the cablebox to the receiver md/tape in. then connect your tv audio input to the md/tape out of the receiver. or you could just pass it straight from the box to the tv, bypassing the receiver altogether.

Denon avr 1802 died after lightning strike

I hate to be the bearer f bad news but it has been my experience , anything hit by lightening stays hit permanantly ..
You may find a few components on the quick scan of the circuit burnt or damaged , but you can guarantee that other components have been fried also .. It does enough damage to any electrical system when you get a 300v spike on the mains .. so imagine what approx 1/2 a million volts will do to a 12 volt radio ?? dont waste your money call your insuarnce company and claim for it ?. ... Digital audio cuts out.

Hi,
I have same DD 5.1 tiny "bursts" problem with satellite HD channel. It is probably problem with Crystal DSP (German site): http://forum.digitalfernsehen.de/forum/showthread.php?t=89328&page=3
"Denon bietet Lösung für EX-Flag-Problem bei den Modellen AVR-1602 und AVR-1802 an

07.08.2002(cr)
