Question about Samsung WS32Z308P 32" TV

1 Answer

Samsung WS32Z429T I have a fine line running horizontally across the screen. Best way I can descibe it is as a ridge, it appears lighter in colour than the background, is about 1-2 mm and moves slowly up or down the screen. It is present on all inputs and even with no input. Through the RGB HD inputs (Viewing Xbox360) the problem changed to a series of lines spaced about 4inches apart that move up the screen a little faster. Any help greatly appreciated.

A strange thing happened - I had to move the TV to do some painting over the weekend and when I put it back the line had gone.
Very bizarre - it's back in exactly the same position and everything else is exactly as it was (Except the colour of the wall of course)...
Thanks for the advice anyway, if it comes back I'll be sure and follow it!

This looks like it could be a problem with leakage of the 60Hz vertical scan frequency into the picture this is also called 60Hz hum. What usually causes this is poor filtering on the power supply or decoupling capcitors in the vertical section have begun to malfunction. This problem is easy to fix if you have the equipment to isolate the problem, I would suggest that you take this set to a TV repair shop to have it analyzed and repaired.

It could be either you card or your monitor, as its easier, swap monitors first, if the problem prevails then you probably need a new card, second hand replacements are fairly cheap on ebay or PC repair shops.

I wouldn't attempt as the capacitors on a tv store around 25000 volts this is more than enough to kill you and they keep there charge even when the tv is off. Either take it to a repair shop or put that money towards buying a new tv - Do not even attempt to open the tv. (It sounds like maybe a tube has gone or the electromagnet that makes the beam move vertically is gone.

The graphics part of the laptop is going out. Recommend just replacing the laptop, it would be cheaper.
