Recently upgraded to Windows XP, now my Garmin StreetPilot c320 unit is not recognized so maps cannot be downloaded. Receive error message to go to garmin.com/usbgpsfaq which says that for the unit to be recognized, that the version of maps should be above 5.1, which it is. I agree, you need to buy the sd card with preloaded map,my sd card is already preloaded with map so I just have to ignore the this mapdata is more than 12 month old message my guess is that when it communicates with the sattelites then you should be redirected around diversions etc so if there is a prob with instruction is not your sat nav thats the prob its the sat where the data is coming from picking up diversions etc in which case sat data hasnt been upgraded yet, seems the common sense answer to me as all thats in the sd card is a map the sat does the rest as well as provide the signal thats my theory so when you buy maps on sd your not getting the latest one but a map of the country/area your travelling in,the map updates are for map source so you can make your own routes/custom points and upload them to comp/download them to gps as you see fit,so watch your not being conned just to buy a new map on sd card that you dont need just necause of a,this map hasnt been updated in the last year message or data older than 12 months.Am waiting ona n answer from tech support and I expect that is what I will be told as I keep the message saying these cities are not unlocked to your gps unit when transferring from map source ven though map source is unlocked for using as mapsource so there is the answer nope it cannot be done. I have a Garmin as well. Updating your map is super easy. Just go to https://my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm and enter your serial number. They will then provide you with a link to download new maps and instruction on how to install them.
Hope this helps!

Sounds like your battery died and there's no juice to it. When the battery is low, the unit shuts itself off and has a hard time starting up. If possible, try plugging in your unit with a USB cable from the computer and leave the computer on for a few hours and see if that doesn't solve the problem. When in the car, sometimes the cigarette lighter socket comes loose.
Regarding your i3, the USB drivers must be loaded BEFORE you connect your garmin. If you do not have your USB drivers, you can download them from:
The Garmin C340 comes preloaded with maps while the I3 require that the maps be installed onto a micro sd card.
You can place the micro SD card into a SD adapter and use a regular card reader to download your maps. When the software ask for 'Device' to download to use the drop down arrow and find your drive letter associated with the card reader. Using a card reader will be much faster since the it is ubs 2.0 vs ubs 1.1
You could also go to Garmin website and download and install the USB drivers, see link below.
A way around this is to insert the SD Card into the computer (SD Card reader), point the directory to the card and install the maps like that. I had to do that the first time I bought my unit because I couldn't figure it out and got frustrated. So I thought of this easy work-around.
I had this problem and the solution was to get a PCI USB card for my computer. My computer's motherboard didn't properly use USB and the Garmin GPS could never talk to the computer.
You can get a PCI USB card cheaply at nearly any good computer / electronics store, or even on Ebay. Once installed, just plug the USB cable into the socket on the PCI card and try the GPS again.
Try downloading the User Manual from the internet.
-- OR -- You may have a PDF copy already on your computer.
It may be in the install program.
