I had several items drop in the paper tray. I turned it upside down, sideways etc - got it all to come out. I also made this clip thing come out. I know where it goes but am anot able to see how to remove the back cover to replace it. It works fine now, but does not limit the amount of paper it grabs because of this part - I think. Is there a repair manual available?
Re: lexmark x5470 paper sensor came out............
I have the same printer and yes that little piece limits the amount of paper fed in the printer. Repair manual? No there is no repair manual if you choose to do it yourself you may void the warranty.

If you are willing and able, remove the printer from the power source. Disconnect the cables from the back of the printer. Remove any paper from the paper feed tray. Holding the printer in both hands, carefully turn it upside down to see if anything falls out of the paper feed area.
If you are physically able and willing, carefully lift the printer and turn it upside down so the foreign object will freely fall out from the feeder. Shake it carefully, if needed. Thank you for choosing Lexmark.
Hello thereGenerally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there. And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it. Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Hi, The problem could be an object inside the Auto document feeder that could be blocking the path of the paper or preventing the feed roller from feeding the paper. You can try the following, Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power cord, then remove the paper and then turn the printer upside down and shake it a little bit, sometimes this will help remove any objects inside the printer.

Hi, You can try the following. Remove all paper from the printer and turn printer off. Try opening the printer as if you were to remove the ink cartridges and check for any paper jammed in the printer. If there is a paper jammed try to remove it. if there is no paper jammed in the printer then try the following remove all paper from the feeder and flip the printer upside down and shake it a little. Sometimes things will fell inside of the paper feeder and will block the paper path thus causing the printer not to be able to pull the paper.
Sounds like you may have something stuck inside, unhook it and turn it upside down and shake it, I bet something will fall out and then it should work.
Place a sheet of plain A4 paper in the paper feed tray.
Move the paper support on the left-hand side to the left end of the paper.
Press the paper feed button.
If the paper does not feed, continue with step 2.
Check for any obstructions in the paper feed path:
Disconnect the cables from the back of the printer.
Open the front of the printer and check for anything that may be blocking the paper path.
Close the front lid and remove any paper from the paper feed tray.
Holding the printer in both hands, turn it upside down to see if
anything falls out of the paper feed area. (Sometimes objects such as
pens, paper clips and so on can fall into the paper feed area and cause
blockages.)
You can clean with special cleaning paper which ca be used clean the rollers............
